Taiwanese smartphone maker HTC will officially unveil its latest flagship smartphone, the HTC One M10 or HTC 10, on April 12, giving its predecessor, the HTC One M9, a full year market cycle before its successor arrives.
What shall make the official launching of the HTC 10 significant is that the Taiwanese handset maker will have simultaneous events in three key cities in the world where HTC has strong presence including Taipei in its home country of Taiwan, New York in the US, and London in the UK.
The April 12 event shall be live streamed online through the company’s website, reports Breathecast.
The latest that the HTC 10 flagship smartphone was spotted was at the GFXBench benchmarking site, which confirmed the reported features of the smartphone, consistent with the numerous leaks that have made the internet since late last year.
According to the site, the HTC 10 will provide support for a Quad HD resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels on a 5.2-inch screen and it will come with a Super LCD 5 display, details the International Business Times.
Main features and specifications
HTC 10 will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor and shall have a 4GB of RAM and an internal storage of 64GB.
It shall also sport a 12-megapixel camera with dual-LED flash, autofocus, and optical image stabilization feature. It shall also come with a 5-megapixel front snapper.
The flagship smartphone of HTC shall also come out with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow OS out of the box while being supported by an HTC Sense 8.0 UI. It shall also have a generous 3,000 mAh battery.
In addition, its home screen shall feature a fingerprint sensor. In terms of appearance, the HTC 10 will look like the HTC One A9 released by the Taiwanese smartphone maker in August of last year. It shall also have symmetrical sloping edges and it shall come in four different colors including white, black, gold, and silver.
The smartphone is also expected to come out with the USB Type-C connector. This early, the HTC 10 is doing excellently well on the AnTuTu website with an incredible score of 156,091, which is far higher than the 136,875 scored by the Samsung Galaxy S7 and the Xiaomi Mi 5 which scored 134,599.
A major upgrade from the HTC One M9
Before the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2016, there were reports that HTC One M10 will be launched during the event the way the HTC One M9 was unveiled in the same event last year.
However, the Taiwanese smartphone maker pulled a surprise by not unveiling its latest flagship handset during the MWC 2016 and instead settled for a cryptic teaser image at the tail end of the event.
It was clear from the cryptic teaser made by HTC near the close of the MWC 2016 that the HTC One M10 is indeed a major upgrade from its predecessor, the underwhelming and much-maligned HTC One M9.
However, two serial leakers @OnLeaks and @evleaks posted on Twitter various renders of HTC’s latest flagship smartphone.
One thing that immediately caught the attention of HTC fans is that the smartphone shall not be called HTC One M10, nor will it be called as HTC Perfume as rumors early last month insinuated, the handset shall be officially called as HTC 10.
Aside from its all-metal unibody, the latest renders of HTC 10 showed the smartphone with a unique beveled edge on the rear of the phone, consistent with what the Taiwanese smartphone maker showed as a cryptic teaser image during the MWC 2016.
Because of the latest renders of the HTC 10 on the internet, many users and critics believe that the latest flagship handset could signal the return to form of HTC, the way Samsung made its redemption last year with the unveiling of the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge from the disappointment that was the Galaxy S5 in 2014.
Based on the prototypes of the HTC 10, the smartphone could come out with a 5.2-inch touchscreen display with a remarkable 2560 x 1440 resolution. It is to be powered by a Snapdragon 820 SoC, an Adreno 530 GPU, 4GB of RAM, a 12-megapixel rear-facing camera with LED flash and laser autofocus, and a USB Type-C port.
