HTC have been in a peculiar state lately. After they released what was arguably one of the best Android phones to have come out on the market in general – the One M8 – they followed up with the slightly less impressive release of the One M9. Many people were comparing the new phone to its predecessor in a somewhat negative way, claiming that the One M9 didn’t live up to the expectations that the previous phone had set. On the other hand, others were happy with the new device when they judged it on its own merits and not as a successor to the M8.
And it’s true that the HTC One M9 wasn’t a bad phone at all, but it just wasn’t the kind of revolutionary release that people were expecting from all the hype that surrounded it. And now, we’re getting rumors that the company is gearing up for another launch in that line which might breathe some fresh life into it and help people remember why they liked the One brand so much in the first place.
There have been no official statements by HTC yet, and the company is still pretty quiet on the whole thing, so we don’t know when the new phone might be coming out quite yet. On the other hand, rumors are plentiful as can be expected, and there is a lot of unofficial information going around. The general consensus is that the device is likely going to come out by the end of this year, or in the early 2016 in the latest, but we have no idea what HTC are actually planning and what the company could be preparing for their fans.
Rumors about its hardware specifications vary quite a lot from one source to another, but it’s commonly said that it will come with a Snapdragon 820 running at around 3 GHz, and it will also have 4 GB of RAM for its operating memory. Clearly, HTC are planning to bring this line back into the spotlight and get people interested in it once again, but we won’t know for sure until the official specifications have been released.
One of the more interesting rumors is claiming that the camera of the new phone is going to be spectacular and one of the best in its class, and it could be a true revolution from the previous devices in this line. There are rumors about a 27 megapixel camera coming up with this phone, and while that might sound like a bit of an overkill, it’s worth remembering that the market has seen even bigger cameras on a mobile phone so anything is possible.
Last but not least, it’s going to support a bunch of connectivity features and will also offer better battery life and additional durability on all fronts. That could make it a great all-around phone for those who like to have a little extra power in their pockets, and it’s one of the most promising devices coming to the market right now if those rumors turn out to be true.
But for now, we have no idea if they are true or not. The only thing we can be certain about is that HTC are most likely preparing a continuation of that line indeed, as the company has been working very hard to restore their image lately, and this release could be the perfect way to go about that.
How can you say the A9 didn’t do so well. Pretty sure pre-orders are still being taken. Can you judge the success based off pre-orders alone?
