HTC Desire 610 Gets a Successor with Upgraded Specs, the Desire 620!

When the HTC Desire 610 came out, most of the reviews about the device were mixed. While many critics were enthusiastic about the overall offer and praised HTC for giving such a great range of features for such a low price, the device was also noted for giving off the impression of being somewhat underpowered, and in the end, it was true that there were alternatives by other manufacturers that cost less and yet gave the same kinds of specs, more or less. And now, with the release of the Desire 620, it seems the tables are turning – a lot of eyes are on the device, and it’s looking to be significantly more impressive than the 610.

A recent leak showed off the specifications of the new smartphone, and from the official announcement, it seems the leak was genuine. And while it doesn’t upgrade the hardware of the 610 that much, the Desire 620 still a noticeable step up from its predecessor in many departments. Users will get a 5 inch, 1280×720 screen, a 1.2 GHz processor, 1 GB of RAM and an 8 MP camera.

Sure, it’s not that impressive compared to other devices on the market right now, but the point of the Desire 620 isn’t to be a powerhouse in the first place. The device is supposed to attract the low to medium range of the market (more towards the medium, admittedly), and it does that job just fine. It’s not meant to be a competitor for more serious devices, and HTC themselves have various Android phones that are significantly more powerful than this – but the Desire 620 seems to fit its price bracket quite nicely.

One problem that has been noted by some reviewers is the fact that the device comes with Android 4.4 – in a time when 5.0 is already receiving updates and moving forward to higher version numbers, this is not very acceptable. It’s not clear if the device is going to eventually be upgradable to Android 5.0, or if custom ROMs will fix the issue for users willing to do a manual flash, but this can definitely be an issue for some.

Other than that, the Desire 620 is quite the attractive offer by HTC, and it will likely be talked about a lot in the coming weeks. HTC are doing a good job at attracting different market segments with little effort lately, and there’s a good reason why the company’s name is being mentioned more and more often in the news. With the innovative approach they have towards Android as well, it’s a good thing that this particular company is managing to move forward.
