Rumors about the upcoming Season 5 of the American political drama series “House of Cards” on Netflix are also getting weirder as of late.
While the initial speculations were fairly consistent in saying that Claire Underwood shall emerge to become the first female president of the US and take over from her husband Frank Underwood the presidency, the latest rumors are now saying that Frank may actually find a new lover or fling in the upcoming fifth season of “House of Cards,” reports the Parent Herald.
The latest rumors appear absurd because Frank Underwood, played by award-winning actor Kevin Spacey, is suffering from an ailment so having the presidency and dealing with his illness would mean that his plate is full for the upcoming Season 5.
It is possible that the rumors of Frank getting a new love interest in the upcoming fifth season of “House of Cards” were spawned by the fact that he and Claire, played by Robin Wright, have already parted ways as a couple back in Season 4.
They may not agree on a lot of personal things but when Frank was re-elected President of the United States and Claire as his Vice President, they have no other recourse but to work together for the good of the country and the American people.
Could be the impetus for murder
The same rumors are saying that Frank getting a new lover could be the impetus for Claire to plot the murder of her husband and take over the presidency of the country.
Also in the same mix of rumors, Claire shall apparently use Doug Stamper, played by actor Michael Kelly, the most trusted and loyal ally of Frank, as her hit man in liquidating the President.
Some critics are of the opinion that both Frank and Doug have reached the peak of their powers so it is just about right to start considering that they are odds with each other.
In a recent interview, Michael Kelly said that he recalled a conversation he had with former “House of Cards” showrunner Beau Willimon when they were still working during the third season.
He remembered Willimon saying that it would be interesting to see what happens if Doug and Frank’s characters fail. So seeing them lose a bit of the power they have acquired over the past seasons would make the TV series more interesting, reports Chatt Sports Net.
It should be noted that these are merely speculations and have not been confirmed by either the showrunners or cast members of “House of Cards,” so it should be taken with a fine grain of salt.
Setting the stage for the first woman president
Just like the American political action thriller “Homeland” on Showtime, “House of Cards” on Netflix is now setting the stage for the first female president of the United States.
Interestingly, that is not the only thing that seems to be common in the upcoming seasons of both TV series.
Apparently, “House of Cards” has lost a major character in Elizabeth Marvel for Season 5 as she has been taken by “Homeland” to take on the role of Elizabeth Keane, the first US female president. From Seasons 1 to 4, Marvel played the role of Heather Dunbar in “House of Cards” and many fans are saying that she is a big loss to the show.
There are even wild speculations saying that her departure from “House of Cards” might actually cause the cancellation of the show for Season 5.
But many think those rumors are hollowed considering that the big stars of “House of Cards” are still Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright.
Unlike in “Homeland” however where the first female US president will be elected to power, the first lady ruler of America in “House of Cards” shall reportedly rise to power by virtue of ascension.
There have been rumors since the end of Season 4 of “House of Cards” that Frank Underwood would meet his demise in Season 5 which would pave the way for Claire Underwood to become the US president, being the next-in-line to the US commander-in-chief.
