Michael Kelly, the actor who plays Doug Stamper in the American political drama TV series “House of Cards” on Netflix, had a mouthful to say during a recent interview with regards to the possible plotline of the fifth season of the hit show.
Kelly recalled that immediately after Season 3, he and former showrunner Beau Willimon talked about the future of “House of Cards.”
Willimon told Kelly back then that there are two ways that the show could proceed. Either the fans could see the tandem of Frank Underwood, played by Kevin Spacey, and Doug Stamper rampage their way to success or see them both fall into hard times after achieving success, details Game & Guide.
Back then, Willimon wanted to go into the direction where Frank and Doug would suffer the humiliation of defeat after continuously having their scheming ways while in power.
However, Beau Willimon already left the show after the Season 4 finale so it remains to be seen if the new showrunner will follow the idea of his predecessor or come up with something entirely different.
Not just political failure
The rumors about the plotline of Season 5 of “House of Cards” seem pretty consistent that Frank would not just be succumbing to political failure, he would actually meet his demise.
As to how it is going to happen, the rumors are saying that it could either be through illness or Doug Stamper could be the one to murder him under the directive of Vice President Claire Underwood, played by Robin Wright.
The same reports are saying that Claire would have Doug in the palm of her hands because Frank’s loyal ally will be smitten by someone and the Vice President shall be using that woman to control Doug and make him do the unthinkable.
Once Frank is out of the way, Claire would become the President of the United States by virtue of succession.
Politicians are also hooked to the series
Because the TV series imitates life and vice versa, even American politicians are reportedly hooked on the highly entertaining Netflix show.
In fact, just a few days ago, Carly Fiorina took a swipe at Democrat presidential aspirant Hillary Clinton by comparing her to a “House of Cards” character.
Fiorina was a former GOP presidential candidate and HP CEO. She posted on her Facebook page that if Hillary Clinton was on “House of Cards,” they would turn her off because Clinton’s alleged corruption, her entitlement, and her singular focus on ambition would be too unbelievable for TV.
Meanwhile, actor Mahershala Ali, who played the role of Remy Danton in “House of Cards,” shall no longer be part of the show when Season 5 premieres early next year.
In a recent interview, the 42-year-old actor said that his time with the franchise is over so he has to move on. He also wanted to pursue more in his profession so his experience as one of the major characters in “House of Cards” helped mold him to become a better actor, reports Movie News Guide.
He is also thankful for “House of Cards” because it opened up plenty of acting assignments for him especially when he was taken in to play the role of Boggs in the two-part “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay.”
Ali shall soon be joining the cast of a new Netflix series called “Luke Cage” where he will be starring alongside Mike Colter.
Incidentally, the rumors about the upcoming Season 5 of “House of Cards” on Netflix are also getting weirder as of late.
While the initial speculations were fairly consistent in saying that Claire Underwood shall emerge to become the first female president of the US and take over from her husband Frank Underwood the presidency, the latest rumors are now saying that Frank may actually find a new lover or fling in the upcoming fifth season of “House of Cards.”
