‘House of Cards’ Season 5 Cancellation Rumors as a Result of Donald Trump’s Presidency are Simply Ridiculous, Critics Point Out

The critics have spoken. They don’t believe the rumors that Season 5 of the American political drama TV series “House of Cards” on Netflix has been canceled because of the recent political victory of Donald J. Trump as the next President of the United States.

The speculations began to swirl when former showrunner Beau Willimon openly expressed his position against a Trump presidency.

However, critics believe that the political views of Willimon have nothing to do at all with “House of Cards” Season 5 as he already exited the show after its fourth season.

They also find the rumors downright ridiculous since Netflix has already renewed “House of Cards” for its fifth season immediately after it streamed in one bunch the fourth season of the TV series in early March this year.

From an almost real-life to a thoughtful story

With the departure of Beau Willimon, Melissa James Gibson and Frank Pugliese have taken over as the new showrunners of “House of Cards.”

It seems that the producers and writers of the show were actually looking at Hillary Clinton winning the US presidency, which would be parallel to their rumored plan of having Claire Underwood, played by Robin Wright, to become the first female US president.

Since Trump won as the next American president, that would have messed up the plot of “House of Cards” as it made the wrong prediction in the US presidency. That is possibly one of the reasons why there have also been rumors of its cancellation.

Seasons 1 to 4 of “House of Cards” used to be art imitates life or vice versa but with the victory of Donald Trump as the next US president, the TV series has gone back to being merely a thoughtful political story.

Diverting the attention from an expose

Season 4 ended with Frank Underwood, played by Kevin Spacey, declaring an all-out war on terrorist group ICO in a sadistic attempt to create chaos and draw attention away from an exposé penned by Claire’s lover Thomas Yates, details the Express of UK.

The new run of episodes will deal with the fall-out of the article and its effect on Frank and Claire’s presidential campaign. The First Lady was nominated as Frank’s Vice Presidential candidate after their team manipulated an open primary.

Rumors on social media have claimed that Frank will die at the end of Season 5. The President’s life hung in the balance in the last run of episodes after he was shot by crazed journalist Lucas Goodwin.

Over the past couple of months, the rumors were quite consistent in saying that the upcoming Season 5 of “House of Cards” shall focus on the rumored rise to the presidency of Vice President Claire Underwood.

It seems like the new showrunners would like to mirror the events of real-life American politics at that time and they appeared to have put their bet on Hillary Clinton in winning the US presidency.

Apparently, just like the many Americans and folks the world over, they guessed wrong because Donald Trump won the US presidency during the elections held on November 8.

As a result, there are rumors going around saying that the showrunners of “House of Cards” might shift its plotline to be able to align it to the current political situation in the US, which means that Frank Underwood will stay in power and he will plot to exterminate the threat to his position posed by the Vice President and his wife.
