A little over two months away from its highly anticipated premiere date on Netflix, the fourth season of “House of Cards” is gearing up for its most dramatic season yet.
Aside from Kevin Spacey’s Frank Underwood’s re-election campaign, the season is also expected to deal with Underwood’s separation with his wife, Claire, played by Robin Wright.
Fans of the Netflix hit show are looking forward to seeing what happens to America’s power couple after Claire decided to leave Frank in the midst of the latter’s preparation for his presidential campaign during the last season finale.
According to Christian Post, the first few episodes of Season 4 will see Frank and Claire publicly announcing their separation.
This means that the chances of their relationship getting repaired are slim at best. This also means that fans will see less of what the power couple do best – working together.
Executive producer Beau Willimon says that the fourth season will show a different side of the couple.
Willimon reveals that the writers have always believed that the marriage of Frank and Claire has always been the groundwork of the whole show and the show itself is based on the strength of that marriage.
The showrunner adds that the upcoming season will explore the emotional terrain that comes along with the fallout of the marriage.
It will travel the ups and downs of Frank and Claire being apart, working in separate ways and will see a shift in dynamics between most of the characters.
It was earlier reported that the fourth season of the critically-acclaimed political drama will somehow mirror the current state of USA, politics wise.
The timing of Frank’s re-election coincides with America’s 58th presidential elections slated for November 8, 2016.
With a wife-less Frank gunning for re-election as US President, Mr. Underwood is reported to highly depend on his trusted ally Doug Stamper, played by Michael Kelly.
Kelly has said in an interview that Underwood is more efficient with Doug on his side and hopes that the upcoming season will bring their tandem to new heights.
The 46-year-old actor is also excited that he will get to share more screen time with Spacey in the upcoming season. Kelly adds that the newest season could also focus on both parties’ storylines.
It would be interesting to see Frank and Claire work separately and while President Underwood knows what his goal is, it would be pretty interesting how Claire will work without Frank by her side.
In an interview with E! Online, Spacey talked about the upcoming season saying he sees Claire doing anything she pleases so Frank should better watch his every step.
“House of Cards” Season 4 will premiere on Netflix on March 4. The streaming service has released a trailer and it shows Frank Underwood’s campaign for the 2016 Presidency sans Claire.
The trailer suggests that Frank may not seek his wife’s help while campaigning. Also, Neve Campbell’s character is set to be introduced in the season premiere and is on a mission to disrupt Frank’s ambition.
Campbell was added to the cast a few months earlier and her character will play a power-hungry woman set on reaching the top and will achieve some momentum at the expense of Frank and Claire’s damaged relationship.
As per Movie New Guide, the “Scream” star is only signed up for the first episode of the fourth season. This could possibly mean that producers are testing the response of the viewers on Campbell’s character. But they also have no problem signing her up for more episodes in the future.
Netflix also continues to promote the upcoming season through a showcase of Underwood’s promise of continued service through TV spots and even a website, where he describes his vision for the country.
