Season 4 of “House of Cards” is coming fast, and with it, we’ll apparently see various interesting changes to the show’s structure and cast. Some of the most recent revelations about it include the addition of Neve Campbell as a regular cast member, and there might be some rather questionable choices in the cast selection for the new season. Still, the producers of this show are no strangers to drama, especially on the political front, so that shouldn’t be too surprising to anyone.
What do we know about the new season so far? We’re going to see Frank Underwood and his ex-wife Claire battling for the title of the President. We say ex-wife even though their separation hasn’t been officially confirmed, but the end of season 3 was leaning heavily in that direction. Of course, there might be some surprising development for season 4 that will see them still together, but that would be strange indeed.
Campbell is a well-known actress for some viewers, as she used to be a major character in “Scream”, and then played the role of Julia Salinger on “Party of Five”, which seemed to really give her career the boost that it needed. She also had a starring role in “Catwalk”, a Canadian TV show. Campbell has been prominent on the big screen as well, with various roles in well-known film productions.
And now, her addition to the cast of “House of Cards” immediately drew a lot of attention to the show – not that it was suffering from a lack of it before, but still – and fans have been wondering what kind of role she could be performing. Nothing has been said about that yet, and we don’t actually know much about her character on the show.
Which, of course, immediately prompted fans to speculate wildly about the possibilities, but it’s hard to tell what kind of performance we can expect from Campbell in a show that’s as unpredictable as this. Whatever it is though, we don’t doubt that the producers have written an exciting arc for her character.
According to Michael Dobbs, who is the creator and executive producer of the show, we can expect a lot of interesting developments in season 4, including more “wickedness”, great acting, and great dialogue. And of course, they will be continuing the trend of making their fans feel like they want to get more and more of the same. The new season will likely be produced with a very clear awareness of the fact that the show has an addictive potential.
And they might even play with that potential for season 4, giving their fans even more reasons to come back for the next episodes as they continue to air. Dobbs also said that his opinion about the show’s addictiveness is actually his own, and not something coming from his attachment to the show and his work on it.
Of course, it could be just marketing talk, but judging by the way the people behind “House of Cards” have been handling it so far, and knowing the kind of dedication the main involved people have, we have no doubt that they really are putting a lot of effort into making it as enticing as possible.
So far, the show has definitely been doing a great job at being an addictive production that fans can just keep coming back to over and over again, but as with any TV show, it also has the potential to get stale if they don’t change anything about its formula.
