Saul Berenson, the character being portrayed by actor Mandy Patinkin in the American political thriller drama TV series “Homeland” on Showtime, will be exhibiting his strong faith to Carrie Mathison, played by Claire Danes, in fighting terrorism despite no longer working for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), in the show’s upcoming sixth season.
During the show’s presentation at the New York ComicCon held last week, Mandy Patinkin said that his character in the TV series will continue to be a good influence on everyone, reports Game & Guide.
He also said that Carrie Mathison will be like a Vitamix in “Homeland” Season 6 because she will make everyone around her become stronger persons, in a positive way that is.
Showrunner Alex Gansa also confirmed the statements of Patinkin and hinted that the upcoming sixth season of “Homeland” shall focus on counter-terrorism efforts in New York City in the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attack.
He explained that the show wants to objectively sit back and look at how scared Americans should be. He added that the TV series does not want to contribute to that fear, pointing out that Season 6 of “Homeland” will not be about a certain bomb going off.
Gansa said that the next season of “Homeland,” which will premiere on Showtime on January 15, will tackle a different story compared to what was done in the previous season.
Going back in the saddle
There are also reports saying that Carrie Mathison and Peter Quinn, played by Rupert Friend, will be going back in the saddle as far as their romantic relationship is concerned.
It has already been confirmed by both Alex Gansa and actress Claire Danes during the New York ComicCon last week that Peter Quinn is very much alive despite being pronounced as brain dead during the Season 5 finale.
Apparently, Peter will undergo a therapy in New York and that Carrie will personally oversee his recovery and therapy sessions, which spawn speculations that their previous romantic relationship might be revived in the Big Apple.
However, that remains to be seen but fans of “Homeland” would surely be happy knowing there will be a story of Carrie and Peter shaping up in the upcoming sixth season, and possibly resulting in a possible continuation of their romantic relationship.
For most fans of “Homeland,” just learning that Peter Quinn is still very much alive in the upcoming season is more than enough to send fans into gasps and shouts of joy, reports Variety.
The struggles of the first female US president
Season 6 of “Homeland” shall reportedly revolve around the presidential elections and the struggles of the first-ever female President of the United States.
Lest it be accused of being political and endorsing the candidacy of former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in the upcoming presidential elections, the producers of “Homeland” are saying that the plotline has already been thought of even before America went into its current presidential election season.
And by the time that Season 6 of “Homeland” airs on Showtime early next year, the Americans have already chosen their next president and it could either be Hillary Clinton of the Democrats or Donald Trump of the Republicans.
Barrack Obama will officially move out of office on January 20 so the two-month transition from the election period to the formal entry of the next US President into the White House is what “Homeland” shall be highlighting in Season 6.
The role of the newly-elected president named Elizabeth Keane shall be taken on by Elizabeth Marvel.
Most of the scenes of “Homeland” Season 6 shall be filmed in the Big Apple but there will also be some gripping scenes in Abu Dhabi and Morocco. “Homeland” Season 6 shall also have a minor casting change and it shall involve Frannie Mathison, the daughter of lead protagonist Carrie Mathison.
Frannie is the daughter of Carrie with Nicholas Brody, played by Damian Lewis, who was publicly executed in the third season of “Homeland.”
Germany-based twins Luna and Lotta Pfitzer previously swapped off to portray the character in the fourth and fifth season of the hit TV series. According to the report, the showrunners opted to tap a slightly older US-based child actress for the role in the upcoming Season 6 for production convenience.
It was the sighting of Claire Danes as Carrie during the filming of “Homeland” Season 6 in New York City recently that confirmed that Frannie would be replaced by another actress in the TV series, still a child but an older one.
The young girl who was cast on “Homeland” still has that signature strawberry blonde hair she supposedly inherited from her father. She and Claire Danes were acting out scenes that depicted Carrie Mathison as an involved parent. It looked like mother and child are getting along well and living a typical New York life.
Frannie was born just months after her father was hanged in the Middle East in “Homeland” Season 3, while her mom remained on active duty with the CIA overseas. Unable to handle what has been going on in her life, Carrie left her daughter to the care of her sister, Maggie, played by Amy Hargreaves.
