Season 5 of the American political thriller drama TV series “Homeland” on Showtime did well in the rating department. It actually debuted on October 4 last year with 1.66 million viewers and its 12th and final episode that aired on December 20, 2015 netted 2.07 million viewers, reports Release Date.
According to IMDB, the fifth season of the TV series had a score of 8.4 out of 10 based on more than 224,600 user votes. Metacritic also rated the Season 5 of “Homeland” 76 out of a possible high of 100 based on 17 reviews from critics.
In Rotten Tomatoes, the TV series has an average score of 8 out of 10 and 87% approval rating based on 33 reviews from critics.
In short, “Homeland” Season 5 had done well which is why critics were surprised when Showtime announced very recently the push back on the premiere date of Season 6 of the TV series from the fall of this year to January 2017.
But it could be a strategic move on the part of the network. To allay fears and quash possible cancellation rumors, Showtime CEO David Nevins has recently revealed in an interview that they are now in talks with “Homeland” producer Fox 21 Television Studios to renew the series for Seasons 7 and 8.
Nevins was quoted as saying that just because he was not thinking that far ahead does not mean that showrunner Alex Gansa and his team are not.
He added that “Homeland” has been changing itself pretty dramatically each season which is why the TV series deserves an open-ended expiration date. Nevins also said that he has been focused on getting the extension of “Homeland” for Seasons 7 and 8 and is not really asking what would happen beyond the deal, details the International Business Times of UK.
Intermediary phase in the US
Claire Danes and executive producer and director Lesli Linka Glatter recently joined the Film Society of Lincoln Center’s Women of Homeland event in New York and they talked about what’s in store for “Homeland” Season 6.
The actress said that she does not know much about the plotlines of Season 6 but she confirmed that the writers have already turned in a few outlines. She disclosed that the next season will take place during the intermediary phase in the US where the President has been elected but has yet to assume the position.
As far as her character Carrie Mathison in the TV series is concerned, the 37-year-old actress says that she is already stateside and living with her daughter even as the idea of atonement is still playing with her head.
Danes said that Carrie has accrued a lot of guilt over the years and she is still wrestling with all those thoughts. She is still taking her medicines to address her problem but she is still mentally capable.
Cliffhanger ending
The Season 5 finale of “Homeland” had Carrie Mathison about to put an end to the life of her former lover Peter Quinn, played by Rupert Friend, who was already brain dead after being exposed to a deadly dose of sarin gas.
Carrie was about to end the life of Quinn before a burst of sunlight came through the window as the Season 5 finale wrapped up.
The cliffhanger ending of “Homeland” Season 5 has apparently left viewers wondering whether Carrie did push through with her plan to end the suffering of her former lover or the light is a sign that Quinn would survive.
But it seems that the secret is already out that Peter Quinn will survive and will come back in Season 6 of “Homeland.”
The confirmation came no less from actor Rupert Friend when he said in a recent interview that he hopes his character enjoys eating through a tube, indicating that life would be very difficult for Peter Quinn in the upcoming sixth season of “Homeland.”
