“Homeland” ended its fourth season on a bit of a sour note, and there were lots of questions left hanging in the air. Fans have been speculating on various plot points so far and the discussions are actually quite active – what exactly is going to happen once season 5 rolls around, and are we going to see things improving at least a little bit for our characters?
Carrie and Saul, and their relationship, have been one of the main points of speculation for the show’s fans, and pretty much nobody seems to know where things are going to go on that front. However, recent rumors have been pointing towards the direction of a reunion, and what’s more, that might even happen in the beginning of the new season!
We did see Carrie discovering Saul inside the home of a rogue operative, but we don’t know how things are going to develop between them after that scene. It’s worth noting that season 5 isn’t going to pick up where the last season left off, and the story will actually jump forward by a couple of years. From what we’re seeing so far, the two characters will be shown in a relationship of sorts once the new season starts airing, but we aren’t sure how long that is going to last.
So far, we’ve seen photos from the premiere of the new season showing the two having an argument while looking professional in their clothes and overall appearance. Carrie is now employed as the head of security for a wealthy client in Germany, while Saul is dealing with his own personal fallout from missing out on his opportunity for the promotion that he wanted.
Some publications have been pointing out a specific trend in the promotional materials we’ve seen for season 5 so far – it seems like there will be a particular focus on the private life of Carrie, as opposed to showing her going about her work as we’re used to from before. Indeed, the character has so far been seen going about her daily life and interacting with family members and friends in the few promo shots that have been released, and that might allude towards an overall change in the show’s focus.
However, that might be just a façade meant to trick fans – we’ve also heard certain rumors that Carrie isn’t going to last very long in her new “domesticated” style and she will end up looking for work quite fast, probably in one of the first few episodes of the new season too.
According to most fans, it would actually be interesting to see her splitting her time between her private life and her work, something that we’re not so used to seeing from her particular character. Generally she’s all about work and a true professional, but the recent events that she’ll have to deal with in season 5 might end up having a significant impact on her character, and changing her attitude towards her situation a lot.
There will of course be some heavy drama in the new season, and a lot of tense moments as well – we’ve seen a shot that showed Quinn in a pretty bad situation, preparing something nasty for an unknown man with his mouth taped. Quinn seems quite determined in the new trailer, and we don’t know what he’s planning to do but we expect to see some worrying things from the character in the new season.
