“Homeland” is currently in preparation for its fifth season, and according to the latest rumors about the show, fans are going to see some new scenery during the upcoming episodes. It’s been revealed that filming for the show has briefly moved to Germany, where 12 episodes for the upcoming fifth season are to be filmed and produced. More specifically, the crew has moved to the Studio Babelsberg in Berlin, where the entirety of the filming is going to take place.
Currently, filming for the new season is scheduled for June, and that’s when the whole production is going to begin as well. On a curious note, this is reportedly the first American show to shoot an entire season in Germany, as pointed out by some publications. This change of scenery should prove interesting to fans of the show, as previously the settings were mostly in the Middle East, more specifically Afghanistan, Iraq and Pakistan.
It’s not clear if the change was planned for some time, or if the producers are responding to recent controversy surrounding the show, but it could be a combination of both, according to most fans and critics. While the production is highly successful overall, it has also drawn some criticism lately for the extremist Muslim storylines that it focused on, and it looks like the new season is going to move away from that theme to some extent.
In addition, David Nevins gave an interview in which he revealed that the show definitely will attempt to break away from the Muslim-centric storyline of the past seasons, and will explore other sides of its story. He added that “Homeland” has always been about the foreign policy of the United States and the country’s state of intelligence, and anything else discussed on the show is a byproduct of that. Of course, it’s probably inevitable that they would have to touch on certain sensitive topics if they want to explore that.
The plot of the new season is supposed to jump two years into the future, following the events of the finale of season four. A lot has apparently happened in the meantime, and while it’s expected that the story will have gone some significant changes, we don’t know exactly how the plot has been rearranged for season 5. There have been various rumors about some surprising changes to the storyline being planned, but we have nothing concrete so far.
Meanwhile, fans have been doing their best to organize the current set of rumors and confirmed news releases about the show, trying to find some hints about what’s coming in season 5. But until the producers decide to give a little more information on the official front, we’re out of luck.
