Could things have worked out differently? There are some opinions going around that it all came down to poor marketing in the end, and that the game could have been much more successful if it had been advertised correctly.
However, it’s easy to say that in retrospect, but looking at the way Pixelmage handled the game’s development, there weren’t any obvious mistakes in their approach. In fact, the studio managed to make their name known quite fast compared to some other companies on the market.
It’s interesting to note how the game’s community has responded to the situation as well. Apparently, some people don’t even want to get refunded and insist that the studio should keep their money, as they still put a lot of hard work into the project.
However, Pixelmage themselves are insistent that fans are refunded properly, and they’ve been pushing quite hard to make that happen recently. Those who prefer to get their money back faster should just e-mail the developer, as they seem to be quite responsive to their fans right now and are doing their best to keep everyone updated on the situation. Which, by itself, is quite commendable considering how some other studios have gone about similar situations in the past, and how much worse this could have gone down for everyone involved, not just the developer but fans themselves too.
