‘Hart of Dixie’ Fans Hardly Feel Shortchanged Even When the Series was Cancelled for Season 5!

When the producers, the showrunner, and cast members are aware that their TV series is only good for a certain number of seasons, they always endeavor to make sure that when the show wraps up, they have done their best to tie up all the loose ends and answer all the hanging questions in the plotlines.

The Season 4 finale of the American comedy-drama TV series “Hart of Dixie” that aired on March 27 on The CW practically answered all the hanging questions of the show as well as tied all loose ends. Most of all, it had a sort of happy ending.

So when the network announced a few months later that it will no longer renew the show for Season 5, it did not come as a surprise to the producers, the showrunner, and the cast members. Best of all, no one feels guilty about having to end that way because they did not shortchange the viewers at all.

While there have been trickle rumors that followed after the official cancellation of the show, it was more of an after-effect of some people or groups who wanted to see more of the TV series rather than part of an attempt to negotiate the rescue of the show from cancellation with another network or streaming service.

Clarifying the rumors

One of the key rumors that went around is that the pregnancy of lead star Rachel Bilson, who plays the role of Dr. Zoe Hart, caused the cancellation of “Hart of Dixie” for Season 5, cites Kdramastars.

Bilson took to Instagram to clarify and quash the rumors by saying that her pregnancy had nothing to do with the cancellation of “Hart of Dixie” because she loved the show and loved playing Zoe Hart.

She also took it as an opportunity to thank the viewers for their support during the four-year run of the show.

The rumors actually started when Jaime King said in a previous interview that when Rachel got pregnant, her main priority was to take care of her daughter Briar Rose with Hayden Christensen. Jaime also claimed that the actress wanted to dedicate her time to her baby and become a full-time mother, details Movie News Guide.

With Rachel not wanting to go on with “Hart of Dixie,” there was no point of going ahead with the show since her Dr. Hart character is where the plotlines of the TV series revolve around.

Nonetheless, Jaime King said it in a nice way because nobody could fault a mother for being one.

All about the baby

After the Season 4 finale of “Hart of Dixie” in March, it has been all about Briar Rose for Rachel. Even her Instagram account is full of photos of her daughter and her stuff.

She has posted on Instagram Briar Rose’s clothes, accessories, and toys. One other photo shows her and Briar Rose’s matching ‘Star Wars’ Vans shoes. In a different photo, it showed the actress cuddling with her daughter’s stuffed toy.

But Rachel did speak previously about the cancellation of “Hart of Dixie” just weeks after it was axed by The CW network. She said then that situation has been tricky for her and the entire cast as well. She also denied rumors that “Hart of Dixie” was cancelled because of poor ratings. On the contrary, the show was actually faring very well in the ratings game.

Despite posting an average of 1.5 million number of viewers for its entire Season 4, it was not enough to convince The CW network to renew the TV series for a fifth season.

During its fourth season, “Hart of Dixie” averaged a 0.6 rating in adults between the ages from 18 to 49 and a higher 0.9 rating among women from 18 to 34 years old.

The 1.5 million average viewership of “Hart of Dixie” Season 4 was a relatively small dip compared to its peak season which was Season 1, where the show averaged 1.8 million viewers.

There have been previous reports saying that it was due to the departure of lead star Rachel Bilson and her unavailability to do Season 5 that the network decided to cancel the show. But now it is clear that even during the filming for Season 4 sometime late last year, the cast and crew of “Hart of Dixie” already knew that it is to be the final season of the show.
