American actor Harrison Ford escaped a plane crash on March 5 with moderate trauma and multiple gashes to the head. But it’s not a major passenger airplane crash but a single-engine that he himself was piloting.
The 72-year-old actor is an aviation enthusiast and has held a flying license since 2002 as given by the Federal Aviation Administration.
Based on the initial investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board, Ford was flying a Ryan Aeronautical ST3KR, a vintage World War II training plane.
It was still not clear what caused the accident but those who have witnessed the incident saw the plane hitting the tree branches before crash landing on its belly at the Penmar Golf Course in Venice, Los Angeles, California, near the Sta. Monica Municipal Airport, which was where the plane was supposed to land, investigators believe.
Shaken but okay
It appears that Harrison Ford was shaken and hurt during the incident but was okay. He was actually breathing and conscious when paramedics arrived at the crash site and took him to the hospital, cites MSN Entertainment.
The Los Angeles Fire Department received the 911 call at around 2:20 in the afternoon and they immediately rushed to the scene along with LA paramedics. Initial reports said that the plane crash was rated from medium to high but from the looks of the wreckage, it looks more like a medium-impact crash.
Harrison Ford was already outside of the plane when the LA Fire Department team and the paramedics arrived.
A subsequent aerial footage of the crash site also showed the damaged plane with Ford being given first aid treatment by the paramedics for his injuries before being taken to the hospital.
Paramedics on the scene said that Ford’s condition was fair to moderate and he was suffering from moderate trauma, which was typical for a plane crash survivor.
Will return to action
Harrison Ford is expected to recover from the injuries he sustained from the plane crash and will be ready to wrap up filming for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” the seventh installment to the “Star Wars” movie series.
Ford will be reprising his role as Han Solo for the movie which is due to hit theaters on December 18, 2015.
He will be returning to the franchise along with Mark Hamill, who plays Luke Skywalker, and Carrie Fisher, who plays Princess Leia.
He is also set to reprise his role in the 1982 cult classic “The Blade Runner” but it will be shown next year.
Last year, Harrison Ford was shown in the movie “Expendables 3” with Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenneger, Mel Gibson, and several more big-name action stars both young and old. He was seen piloting the helicopter that the team used in escaping enemy territory.
