Hannibal has just been caught and has been placed in prison, but it does not mean that his evil ways will end there. Ironically, Hannibal continues to be a psychotherapist even though he is already behind bars. This is just one of the many twists showrunner Bryan Fuller has incorporated into the series.
Hannibal continued to be mischievous as he tries to brainwash his patients to unravel their most murderous and darkest selves and help their causes. Hannibal’s main argument is that killing is one of the most basic desires of humankind.
Fuller pushes the show to the extreme by providing visuals that would stick to the viewers’ minds. One of the examples of this is when he decided to put Hannibal in a cell that was lit to make holes in the shield and appears to be phases of the moon.
It was one of the most memorable episodes of the show considering that it focused on the entire story of the characters involved. It started with the Red Dragon planning an attack on Molly and Walter, then it transitioned to Reba’s break up with Francis Dolarhyde. Lastly, the story went back to Hannibal and his new home.
The two episodes before “And the Beast from the Sea” focused entirely on emotions and the vulnerability of the characters. In the episode, the show has moved to its turning point.
Dolarhyde tried to kill Will’s family but failed. The show got even more interesting because the fans were expecting him to brood his way out of the tricky situation and react like a lost pig but he did not. The show featured Dolarhyde’s internal ferocity and translated that into his battle with the Red Dragon. His fight with the Red Dragon has been astonishing, but even though the episode has so many action scenes, most of the storyline still focused on the intimate conversation of the characters.
William Blake painting
The episode took another turn for the complicated when Jack, Alana, and Will talked about the consequences of Francis damaging and eating the William Blake painting. Alana said Francis could just be trying a different way to stop the killing, which is possible since he opted not to kill the Brooklyn Museum employee. On the other hand, Jack was not convinced about the idea. He still believes that it is just a sign of weakness and they could use it to their advantage and force Francis to commit suicide.
Jack spoke with Will and asked him if Hannibal has told him any valuable information about the Red Dragon. Will said Hannibal is still going to be very useful for them. Will said Hannibal knew where the Dragon will be and he knows who the Dragon is. They are now thinking that Hannibal might have cured the Dragon as his patient before.
In a different therapy session, Francis recalls the moment he first encountered “The Great Red Dragon.” Hannibal, being a mischievous murderer, told Francis what he wanted to hear. Francis agreed to Hannibal, but he said he has already changed. Francis told Hannibal that everything changed since Reba. He was fighting the will to kill because he fell in love with Reba and the Red Dragon is now telling him to kill her.
