There is a lot that is not known about “Half-Life 3” at the moment – in fact, there’s not much that is actually known in the first place. The game is surrounded by a lot of mystery and it’s become one of the industry’s icons for “vaporware”, in other words software projects that are abandoned silently.
But since Valve haven’t actually confirmed that the game has been cancelled, some people are still hoping to see it in the future. When this might happen exactly, nobody seems to have any idea.
The other problem that some fans see in the situation is that the expectations towards “Half-Life 3” might simply be too great for Valve – or any other studio on the market for that matter – right now, and the company might have dug themselves into a hole that they can’t get out of.
It’s been so long that people will not accept any random game with this name, they will obviously want nothing but the best quality. If the game does come out, it must be polished to perfection if people are to take it seriously, and that’s a task that even Valve might find too difficult to tackle right now. But in the end, this is Valve, one of the more unusual studios on the market and a company that understands its community better than most – so anything can happen.
