‘Half Life 3’ Virtual Reality Version May Be Causing the Delay of the Game’s Release on the Consoles and the PC

Game developer Valve Corporation did not announce anything about its highly-anticipated first-person shooter video game “Half Life 3” during the Electronic Entertainment Expo E3) 2015 event last month.

For some reasons, however, the company subsequently made a tease on its website that showed a logo and a teaser poster for “Half Life 3.” But when fans and gamers started checking out the website as a result of the news that a tease of the game has been made on Valve’s site, the company took down the poster and the logo, leaving many fans in dismay.

But the resourceful fans and gamers apparently have found an interesting bug. When a user types valve.software on a browser, the page actually loads and the words ‘Mabe next year’ will appear before getting redirected to the Valve website, details iSchool Guide.

Somehow, it seems to be a hint that “Half Life 3” will be released next year although an official pronouncement or statement has yet to come directly from Valve to either confirm or deny this.

Cause of the delay

As Valve has been uncharacteristically mum about “Half Life 3,” it seems that the game development company is working not only on the game but something big for the game.

And if a recent tease by one of its programmers is any indication, it seems that the developer is working on a VR or virtual reality version of “Half Life 3.” It may very well be the main factor that is causing the delay in the release of the video game on the gaming consoles and the PC.

Valve programmer Jeep Barnett was quoted as saying that they will take some existing art and see how it fits when they grab some headcrabs. He added that they shall also grab some machine guns from “Half Life,” the rocket launcher, and all the other fun things that can be seen in the game, and see how they all play in VR.

He explained that VR has become a tool for exploring the different kinds of designs that the development team wanted to do on “Half-Life 3.”

Despite all the side issues that the game has to deal with, it seems very likely that the game will finally hit the gaming consoles and the PC next year, cites Latinos Post.

A research experiment going wrong

The first “Half Life” game came out in 1998 for the Windows PC as released by Sierra Studios. Subsequently, the sci-fi first-person shooter video game also made it to the PlayStation 2, the Mac OS X and Linux in January 2013.

Players take on the role of Dr. Gordon Freeman in the video game. Freeman is a theoretical physicist who must fight his way out of a secret underground research facility, where a research and experiment on teleportation has gone terribly wrong.

The “Half-Life” franchise has sold over 20 million units as of July 2007. That figure may already be close to being doubled if the results of “Half-Life 2” are also factored in.

When “Half Life 3” has been confirmed, Gabe Newell explained that they will be doing the sequel should Valve employees agree to do it.

Newell said that the only reason why he’d go back and do a super classic kind of product is if many people at Valve would say that they wanted to do it and have a reasonable explanation for it.

Half-Life 3

So doing another “Half Life” game and choosing to ignore the learnings that the developer got when it shipped out “Portal 2” would mean that they are not taking the advice too seriously because that has been proven to be a bad choice in the past.

  1. During an interview with BBC, Ms Wang said that HTC was co-operating with Valve on a Half-Life title , but she would not state specifics on whether that meant a new game potentially Half-Life 3 or a virtual-reality remake of one of the series existing titles.
