Half Life has been the most talked about gaming franchise for a very long time. The latest installment of this series, Half Life 3, is also being talked about but for an entirely different reason altogether. Word around the internet is that the developing company of the game, Valve, is not taking it seriously.
The extremely long development period that this particular game has undergone is already a mess to begin with. Now all that has been topped by Valve’s reaction to the release date of this game as it has still not defined any particular slot for its release. Gamers and fans of the series are already speculating about it but have not yet reached any conclusion.
Valve has been uncannily quite about their product, but this comes to them naturally. However, judging by the hype surrounding Half Life 3 it was anticipated that Valve would react to the issue and thereby provide a statement as well. Formal announcements are yet to appear from the developing company’s side.
There have been certain rumors around the online forums, which state that this game’s development is stagnant. This is because Valve is trying to rework their Source engine into the next major platform – Source 2. This new engine could power Half Life 3, which means that the game’s release will be hindered.
Critics have condemned the course of action that Valve is currently talking with respect to the Half Life franchise. With several projects at hand, Valve is currently working a lot of projects simultaneously, hindering concrete progress. Some of those projects include interesting titles such as Left 4 Dead 3 as well as a sequel to the acclaimed Team Fortress 2. Fans are wary that all this work might be outshining the prospect of an excellent Half Life 3 release.
The attention that this game has received over the years is due to its delayed release dates and the associated hype. It is obvious that Valve will have a very hard time getting the project rolling once Half Life 3 releases. It will automatically generate a lot of criticism because of the simple fact that fans have been waiting long enough for this game to overlook any development error.
A faction of the fan base is also worried that this kind of response, or no response from the development team, might suggest that there is no sequel after all. They fear that Half Life 3 might not get a proper ending as well. Release dates and rumors have surfaced after a reputed source released a statement, but these cannot be authenticated.
