Half-Life 3 may exist. Whether it’s true or not, this is being suggested by Swedish Videogame Store Webhallen, where recently a brand new retail listing has been found. According to the information provided in the barebones product page, it seems that we may get to experience a 2015 release for the PC platform.
However, gamers have gotten used to news, speculations and rumors like this surfacing on the internet. It is certainly not the first time that a speculated release date was announced on the internet. Valve fans have been clamoring for a follow-up to Half-Life 2. Ever since its release in 2004, it has been considered to one of the best first-person shooter titles till date. However, a decade has passed and still no news from Valve.
Currently, it is similar to a pipedream for industrial enthusiasts that will probably never come true. The most direct and absolute mention to Half-Life 3 occurred this summer when the creator of Counter-Strike, Minh Le, confirmed that the game is probably being worked on some vague capacity measure.
During the interview, the primary focus needs to be laid on the fact that Le mentions seeing a concept art from the Half-Life Universe. The internet rumor department regarding Half-Life 3 has been quiet for some time now until this hopeful listing popped up on the internet. Considering the barren look of the informational site, it remains to be questioned whether the product was listed by mistake or simply as a joke.
However, Webhallen is a relatively popular games retailer. As a result of which this newly released rumor could still be genuine. From 2005-2013, the entire chain was owned by Amazon itself. Till date, it consists of nine different Swedish stores along with a well-referenced online marketplace.
Although this sounds quite in reference to places like GameStop in the U.S, it is still a well-managed distribution channel for Sweden. Swedish Gamers surely trust the branding of ‘Webhallen’. However, it remains to be seen whether the rest of the world should.
We are all aware of recent declarations by Gabe Newell regarding the future of Valve and its gaming titles. He clearly indicated that Valve wishes to spawn many multiplayer and online games in the future. From the looks of it, Valve has seriously washed its hands off from developing any single player first-person shooter games in the Half-Life franchise.
Presently, Gabe revealed that he is quite surprised with the growing popularity of Half-Life 3 among gamers. In response to that, he declared that it will surely be a title they might develop in the far future. Its release date will not be anytime soon as indicated by Gabe Newell.
