Recent reports came out stating that the development of the first-person shooter video game “Half Life 3” was intentionally delayed by game developer Valve Corporation to give way to the multiplayer zombie third-person shooter game “Left 4 Dead 3” which is also in its stable.
The disclosure actually came from a former employee of Valve Corporation who said that the earliest that “Half Life 3” can come out on the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One is in the last quarter of 2017 or the first quarter of 2018 at the latest.
While the release date is just too far off to even think about the game as of this time, gamers are actually more interested now in knowing the plotline or the story on how Valve plans to end or conclude the series, notes Youth Health Mag.
Of course, their excitement also trickles to the gameplay innovations that Valve will be rolling out with the game, the foremost of which are reports that the game might actually come out in virtual reality (VR) mode.
However, until Valve Corporation makes an official statement or announcement to either confirm or deny the latest reports about “Half Life 3,” everything is speculation as of this time.
Pacifying fans of the game
In order to pacify the anxious fans, who obviously were dismayed with the recent reports that “Half Life 3” will come out in 2017 at the earliest, there are rumors that Valve might be releasing a “Half Life” spin-off video game called “Lost Squad” on Steam, cites the Christian Post.
“Lost Squad” explores what happened to game protagonist Barney Calhoun after “Half Life 2” and based on its description as provided in Steam, it extends the award-winning “Half Life” universe to look at familiar events with friends in co-op mode and gamers can fight newly-spawned creatures too and so much more.
Valve has yet to specify an exact release date for “Lost Squad” but since it has already provided a video game synopsis, it is likely to be coming out on Steam either before the end of the year or early next year.
Commiserating with gamers
The former employee of Valve Corporation who made the latest revelations about “Half Life 3” and “Left 4 Dead 3” felt compelled to do it because he was actually commiserating with the woes of gamers so he decided to spill what he knew.
However, as a former employee, his revelation at this point is unofficial because it did not come from an official channel or the company itself. Still, it’s a lot better than having no news at all. The even better part is that his news is quite plausible enough it’s really worth believing.
According to the ex-staff of Valve Corporation, “Half Life 3” is currently not in active development and not because the company is taking it slow as per recent reports. Apparently, Valve is intentionally stalling the development of the highly-anticipated game to make way for the development of “Left 4 Dead 3,” which it plans to release first.
Although the news is not as promising as what “Half Life 3” fans are hoping, it is still better than getting erroneous information that often raises their false hopes. At least now, they know when to expect the next iteration of their favorite video game franchise.
Valve is said to be not in a hurry developing “Half Life 3” for two major reasons. The game developer is already making lots of money for its multiplayer video games like “Dota 2,” “Counterstrike,” and its other games on its own gaming platform Steam that it does not want to risk putting the stake on a single-player game amid its huge fan base.
The game developer believes that multiplayer gaming has better revenue potentials than single-player video games.
