Much talk and rumors have been going around on the internet regarding the first-person shooter video game “Half Life 3” from Valve Corporation but nothing concrete seems to be happening.
Initial reports indicate that Valve has been working on the game already, but the developer eventually denied it by saying that it will let everyone know if it is already through with the game and when it sees the need to release it.
The Day Herald got wind of rumors that indeed Valve is working on “Half Life 3” because the story of the game has already been completed. However, the same speculations indicate that only 10 people are working on the development of the game, which means that it would take the developer quite some time before it finishes the game.
That is likely the reason why Valve has been very conservative in its recent statements about the game. It appears that it does not want to put pressure on itself in the development of the game just to give in to the clamor and demands of fans.
With only 10 people working on the game, it is now very likely that “Half Life 3” will not be coming out anytime this year, although many fans of the game are still hopeful of a miracle, which is nothing new in the international gaming community.
Not into full production yet
YouTube channel ‘The Know’ also validated the reports that the script and gaming events for “Half Life 3” are already complete but the game has yet to go into full production.
It was actually the same channel that disclosed that only 10 people are working on the development of the game because Valve Corporation does not have any interest in releasing the game soon.
There were also rumors saying that Valve might release “Half Life 3” in virtual reality (VR) mode which is the reason why the development of the game is taking so long.
According to ‘The Know,’ the reason why only 10 people are working on “Half Life 3” is because most of the members of the Valve development team have been assigned to work on other projects, especially when the developer took note of the gamer reaction and response to the “Mass Effect 3” ending.
Worried that “Half Life 3” may generate the same negative fan reaction, Valve thought of slowing down on the game as it does not want to make all the trouble only to be criticized big time towards the end.
The other reasons
Design & Trend also details two more possible interesting reasons why Valve is going slow on the development of “Half Life 3.”
The Steam marketplace revenues and “Dota 2” are bringing huge money to the company so Valve does not have the pressure to make more money out of “Half Life 3.” While the successful launch of the game could earn for the company millions of dollars, that would still pale in comparison to the billions of dollars that Steam and “Dota 2” bring to its coffers.
The second reason is the huge fan expectation on the game. Valve would have to ensure that the third installment of the game would be very successful because anything less would be disastrous not just to the franchise but to the developer itself.
Despite the seeming apprehension of the game developer on the development of “Half Life 3,” gamer excitement remains high, contented with the fact that Valve is working on the game, albeit on a very sluggish pace.
