‘Half-Life 3’ Development Gets Another Endorsement from Gamers and Motivation from The Steam Awards

Valve Corporation has yet to say anything official about the development of the survival first-person shooter video game “Half-Life 3” but The Steam Awards seems to have heightened the demand and also added a proper motivation to the game’s fruition.

The game development company’s very own The Steam Awards has actually given an all-new dimension to gaming awards, unlike anything that gamers and critics have ever seen.

Its open-ended nature with no nomination restrictions has provided freedom of choice that has thousands of PC gamers talking and sharing their selections or rally behind a game or an idea, reports Game Revolution.

Valve has promised to feature the most popular write-ins, encouraging creativity, and collaboration. Naturally, gamers are using it as an opportunity to show off their sense of humor and in some cases make a statement.

The development of “Half-Life 3” was alluded directly when several users selected “Half-Life 2: Episode 2” and giving it an award of “Game that Deserves a Sequel.”

“Half-Life” fans rallied behind the idea so that when The Steam Awards draws to a close, the widespread desire for “Half-Life 3” will be featured prominently on the Steam Store. When that happens, Valve has no other choice but to take the request seriously because the gamers asked for it.

Everyone wants it

People using The Steam Awards actually turned it into an instrument to tell Valve that everyone wants “Half-Life 3” and that the game development company should start working on it and fast.

When Valve included a wild card during The Steam Awards which it called as “We Didn’t Think of Everything” award, the audience was tasked with writing in and voting for their own category.

The category was used by the people who are using The Steam Awards to tell Valve to pull its finger out and make the sequel everyone’s been waiting years for by handing the “Game that Deserves a Sequel” award to “Half-Life 2: Episode 2.”

Critics believe that Valve would not change any internal plan because of hundreds of The Steam Awards votes, but it’s a keen reminder that a good number of people would like to play a “Half-Life 3” game, some nine years after “Half-Life 2: Episode 2” came out, details the Eurogamer.

To see the light of day in 2018?

Based on latest fan theory, which seems consistent with previous rumors, “Half-Life 3” might see the light of day in gaming consoles and the PC in 2018 with impressive new features.

The fan theory and the previous rumors are basing their assumption on the fact that the “Half-Life” franchise will be marking its 20th anniversary in 2018 so it is only but fitting to unveil the latest iteration of the game during the same year.

There are also rumors saying that Valve Corporation might have already been working on “Half-Life 3” but in a clandestine way. The notion was recently reinforced when some fans have discovered a code generated from a “DoTA 2” update.

The code showed ‘HLVR’ which many have deduced to mean as “Half-Life Virtual Reality.” Thus, it also spawned speculations that the game could actually come out with a virtual reality (VR) headset already.

During the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2016 held late in February this year, Cher Wang, Chairperson of HTC, confirmed that their company is cooperating with the developers of the “Half-Life” franchise but she did not directly say that they are working on “Half-Life 3.”

Half-Life 3

As far as a possible storyline for the game is concerned, reports have it that Gordon Freeman will remain as the main protagonist of the game and his main mission is to locate the missing Doctor Helena Mossman.

Gordon Freeman shall reportedly reach an underwater base for his mission and it is where his “Half-Life 3” adventures will begin.
