After the confirmation that “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” will be featured at this year’s San Diego Comic Con, fans have been trying to guess what the event will bring for them. Is it possible that we will get an actual trailer for the upcoming film, or will it be more about discussions with the producers or cast? Nobody knows for sure, but it should go without saying that plenty of fans are thrilled at the idea of possibly getting a preview of the film in a few weeks.
It would make perfect sense too, as the San Diego Comic Con would be a great place to showcase the film and gauge responses for it as soon as possible. Of course, if we do get a trailer, there’s no guarantee that it will be a long one – it could easily be a short teaser meant to get fans pumped up without revealing too much.
There is actually some merit to the idea of avoiding any serious spoilers right now, because there is a lot of pressure on the producers of the film to make it a good release. Fans loved the first “Guardians of the Galaxy”, and it instantly went down as a major hit, so there is currently a lot of attention on the sequel. It will most definitely be put under a lot of scrutiny, and fans will probably be critical of any serious changes introduced to the formula. Because of this, the people behind the production would be smart to keep things quiet and roll out their promotional materials gently.
Plus, Marvel know their audience and they definitely know how to build suspense and get the most out of their releases, so if anyone could pull this off, it’s them. The first “Guardians of the Galaxy” was a nice way to branch out the studio’s production style and explore themes that had been uncommon in their works until then.
Some are convinced that the release of the film was intended to offer some competition to Disney’s new “Star Wars”, and while that could make sense, it’s obvious that “Guardians of the Galaxy” would have been a great release on its own. It made perfect sense for Marvel to bring out the film, and we hope that they will continue to explore what that part of their cinematic universe has to offer.
There is also another topic being discussed frequently among fans of the original film – some apparently fear that the studio might be trying to rush the sequel in order to cash in on its popularity as quickly as possible. If Marvel were to release a trailer for the second film now, it will be about two years after they first teased us for the original “Guardians of the Galaxy”.
But then again, it’s Marvel – the studio knows how to get the most out of their production schedules, and they’ve shown time and time again in the past that they are more than capable of observing tight deadlines. Plus, the film is not going to come out until the middle of 2017, which further gives Marvel plenty of time to make the most of their work and ensure that everything comes together flawlessly for the final product.
Fans are also curious about the upcoming changes to the allegiances of some characters. Who are the “old foes” who will become “new allies”, and what are the implications on the general storyline? The possibilities are quite numerous, and of course that’s exactly what Marvel intended when they gave this teaser to their fans. Giving just enough information to inspire long discussions is exactly in the studio’s marketing style after all, and it has worked well for them so far.
