There were rumors last year that veteran Hollywood actor Al Pacino was being considered to play the role of Star-Lord’s father in the sequel to the surprise Marvel hit movie of 2014, “Guardians of the Galaxy.”
It was eventually confirmed during the San Diego ComicCon last month that the role has already been given to veteran star Kurt Russell, who was personally handpicked by Chris Pratt according to Director James Gunn, reports the Daily Mail.
Chris Pratt, as everyone knows, is the actor who plays the role of Peter Quill, also known as Star-Lord, and the leader of the Guardians. He leads an unorthodox team composed of Gamora, played by Zoe Saldana, Drax the Destroyer, played by Dave Batista, Rocket Racoon, voiced by Bradley Cooper, and Groot, voiced by Vin Diesel.
In a recent interview, James Gunn said that Kurt Russell was actually not in his head initially but Chris Pratt suggested him and followed up his recommendation by saying that he would be disappointed if the director said no.
He remembered Chris also saying that if he has to cast anyone, Kurt is a pretty good way to go. Thus, James Gunn decided on getting the veteran actor to play the long-lost father of Peter Quill.
Not suiting his character’s expectations
Reunion often comes with excitement and fun but Chris Pratt disclosed in another interview that his character’s meet-up with his father may end up not the way he would have expected it.
Peter Quill may be a bit disappointed to know that his father may not be the kind of person he was expecting him to be. Both him and his father would have to eventually endure the realities of being in a family, hints Chris Platt.
From the allusion, it seems clear that the two may be at loggerheads with one another before eventually agreeing to put emphasis on their family connection and be on the same side together.
Pratt also confirmed that Star-Lord’s father in “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” will be noticeably different from the character portrayed in the comics. The movie is set to hit theaters on May 5, 2017.
Other than Kurt Russell, the other big stars who will be making cameos in the movie are Sylvester Stallone and “Castle” actor, Nathan Fillion.
An interdimensional connection with ‘Doctor Strange’
There is a concept art on “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” showing the Guardians jumping through the air facing off against a terrifying creature with tentacles.
Latest reports have it that the creature with tentacles may have some kind of interdimensional connection with the next Marvel movie hitting theaters in November, “Doctor Strange,” notes Slash Film.
The connection between “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” and “Doctor Strange” seems to have been indirectly confirmed by Director James Gunn during a recent Facebook Q&A where he said that the creature is an abelisk and is indeed a multi-dimensional being. He added that the Guardians were commissioned to fight the creature.
According to some speculations, the creature is actually an opponent of Doctor Strange, and the Marvel superhero might face off with the being in “Doctor Strange.”
The rumors grow further when a new LEGO set was recently revealed featuring “Doctor Strange” characters. Among those are Doctor Strange, Baron Mondo, The Ancient One, and a tentacled creature coming through a portal.
The LEGO set box describes the creature as a portal beast with rotating teeth, moving eyes, and tentacles.
While there are clear differences between the LEGO character and the concept art presented for “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,” there are also striking similarities, and the speculations have been saying that the creature is one and the same. Still, everything remains as speculation pending the release to global theaters of “Doctor Strange” this November.
