The hype surrounding “Guardians of the Galaxy 2” is huge, and just recently Chris Pratt claimed that the film has the potential to be “the greatest movie of all time”. While that’s a pretty bold claim to make, it does seem like the film is going to offer quite a lot to its audience, and it’s shaping up to be an amazing release. Even if it’s not the greatest film of all time, it should definitely get a lot of positive attention.
One of the more interesting points about the original “Guardians of the Galaxy” was about the identity of Star-Lord’s father. It was rumored that we’re going to see an answer to this in the new film, and James Gunn recently confirmed this on his official Facebook account, in response to a fan’s question.
Obviously, this generated even more hype, and people have been discussing the new film quite actively over the last few weeks. Some fans – and critics – were worried that the producers might push this reveal to the next installment in the franchise in order to leave the door open for an easy sequel. And while this would have definitely been the simple solution, they’ve chosen to make the revelation in “Guardians of the Galaxy 2”.
Hopefully this doesn’t mean anything bad for the rest of the plot though – in other words, it would be good if the writers focus on expanding the universe of the franchise even more and exploring different plot options, instead of focusing so much on the identity of Star-Lord’s father.
What are the possible answers to the question anyway? The Collector is the first guess of many fans, and he seems like a very likely choice indeed. It’s already been revealed that Star-Lord’s father is not human, and The Collector is one of the oldest living beings in the universe in the original comics, making it possible that he’s the character we’ve been looking for.
Then there’s also J’Son, who’s Star-Lord’s father in the comics. However, James Gunn has already said that he doesn’t plan to follow the comics 100%, and specifically when it comes to the father of Star-Lord, he’s going to take a different approach. Of course, there might still be some similarities to J’Son regardless of who the character’s father in the film is, and he could be introduced as a new character having some similarities to J’Son.
Thanos is someone else fans have been suspecting as the father of Star-Lord, although some are skeptical towards this suggestion and don’t believe it in the slightest. The main criticism about this theory is that it would be too similar to the Darth Vader subplot of “Star Wars”, and while that’s true, the producers of the new “Guardians of the Galaxy” could also add their own unique twist to the story.
These are the most prominent guesses that fans have – but there are of course even more theories out there, and many people love to try guessing who the father is going to be revealed as. And the producers of the film are well aware of this hype, and are doing their best to play into it too.
Because of this, we’re probably not going to see any information about the father of Star-Lord on the official front, and his identity is going to be kept secret until the film is ready. It makes sense that they would release the occasional hint to keep the hype active, on the other hand.
