‘Guardians of the Galaxy 2’ Director James Gunn Reveals Original Design of Star-Lord’s Mask!

Fans of highly-anticipated sci-fi movies rely on actors and actresses, mostly during their interviews, to give away hints about the film. But “Guardians of the Galaxy” fans have director James Gunn to look forward to in doing that for the film’s upcoming sequel.

The director and writer of “Guardians of the Galaxy 2” often uses his Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram accounts to give away details about the film. Sometimes, he even answers some of the fans’ queries.

Over the weekend, Gunn continued this trend and revealed the original design work for Star-Lord’s mask via a post on his Facebook account.

The mask in the photo Gunn uploaded was only a prototype, but it still looked real.

Apparently, the reason why the design was rejected because of modification needed on the eyes. On his caption on the photo, Gunn noted that he wanted the eyes to be bigger making Peter Quill’s alter ego perpetually amused and not just a regular hero.

According to Cinema Blend, the evolution of Marvel costumes is an intriguing process to look at. What inspired him to change the design was his friend, Andy Park.

Park was then working on Marvel’s “Ant-Man” when he started uploading to his Twitter account earlier versions of the diminutive suits that were ultimately rejected.

Gunn insisted that he oversees every aspect of what and how the characters of the film will look like and he wanted Star-Lord’s mask to be more than just another disguise of a superhero.

The sideways view of the mask sculpture can be found on Gunn’s Twitter account. Another image of the early design of Star-Lord was uploaded on Gunn’s Instagram account.

The film, officially titled “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,” will see Chris Pratt, Zoe Zaldana, Dave Bautista, and the voices of Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper once again as Peter Quill, Gamora, Drax the Explorer, Groot, and Rocket Raccoon.

Gunn is set to return as director and writer of the sequel to the highly-successful film. He is due to start filming by next year ahead of its May 5, 2017 release date.

The first film was well received by audience and critics and netted a worldwide box office take of over $770 million.

EW reports that Zaldana is already back in the make-up chair for her Gamora transformation. The 37-year-old actress tweeted behind-the-scenes photos of her make-up evolution into the green heroine.

Speaking to David Letterman while promoting the first film, Zoe revealed that the process was old school and took about four or five hours in the makeup chair to execute. It is possible that the same process will be executed upon her character in the sequel.

Details about the upcoming film are quite sparse, but fans posted a lot of their speculations on forums online.

The first film ended with the Guardians flying off to Milano and according to Den of Geek, Karen Gillan’s Nebula, Benicio Del Toro’s Collector as well as Michael Rooker’s Yondu and his gang of Ravagers are sure to come bac for the second film.

Nebula reportedly will play a larger role in the sequel’s story. With Ronan out of the picture, Thanos is bound to have The Orb in his sights.

Judging by the final scene of “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” Thanos will begin trying to collect the Infinity Stones sooner than expected.

Guardians of the Galaxy

What the Guardians will be up to in Vol. 2 remains a mystery, but fans speculate that another mystery will finally unfold in the second film, the identity of Peter’s father.

In the comic books, J’Son of Spartax, the leader of an alien empire who came to Earth and met Peter’s mom, turned out to be his dad.

However, Gunn has openly stated many times that he will be altering that fact in the film version, therefore, J’Son won’t be the father of Star-Lord in the Marvel cinematic universe.
