“Guardians of the Galaxy 2” is to be released to global theaters on May 5, 2017 yet but the excitement that it is generating on the internet appears like the movie is about to be shown in a matter of weeks or even days.
While details about the upcoming film are still sketchy, film director James Gunn has lived up to his name by firing some tidbits of information to keep the fans’ thirst for details about the upcoming film momentarily quenched, notes the Ecumenical News.
He has been very accommodating and busy responding to fan queries about the movie and one of the most interesting response that a fan got from him is when Gunn confirmed that there will be a new member or members of the Guardians in the upcoming sequel. As to how many exactly the new members of the Guardians will be, Gunn did not say.
Although the director has not yet disclosed the identity of the new member or members of the Guardians, there are rumors going around that one of them might be Moondragon, the daughter of Drax.
Drax believed that his daughter and wife were killed by Ronan the Accuser, but he will reportedly discover in the sequel that his daughter survived.
In addition to Moondragon, there have been speculations that the other possible new members of the Guardians may be Nebula and Yondu.
Nebula was an antagonist in the first movie, but it is possible that her grudge against her father may prompt her to join forces with the Guardians.
What Yondu knows
Yondu might possibly be a new member of the Guardians, having been the father figure for Peter Quill a.k.a Starlord in the first movie.
Speaking of Yondu, the actor who plays the character, Michael Rooker recently attended the Dublin ComicCon 2015 held in Ireland on August 8 and 9, and he said during an interview that the script for “Guardians of the Galaxy” is already finished, reports the Irish Examiner.
Rooker also disclosed that filming for the sequel of the 2014 surprise hit from Marvel Studios will begin soon just outside of Atlanta in Georgia.
Continuous writing for 48 days
Director Gunn did confirm as early as June that he has finished writing the first draft of the script of the upcoming sequel. He said that he had worked 48 days straight without a day off to complete the first draft of the script. Although he later on admitted that he has written the story many months before, but the 48 days was for turning the written material into a script or screenplay for the movie.
Gunn said that the sequel will be more emotional than the first and he disclosed that “Guardians of the Galaxy 2” will introduce a new character in the person of Peter Quill’s father.
Peter Quill is Starlord and is the leader of the “Guardians of the Galaxy.” His character is played by actor Chris Pratt in a slightly comical way. But it seems that the sequel would be more serious compared to the first as it shall focus more on Peter finally finding out the identity of his father.
The director, however, said that Peter’s father will not be the same as in the comic books. He says he finds the character in the comic unappealing so he shall be putting a twist on the attributes of Starlord’s father in “Guardians of the Galaxy 2.”
It has also been reported that production for the movie will begin in February next year which would give them enough time before it is finally released to worldwide theaters in 2017.
