It’s incredible how much people like to talk about “GTA 6” without even having as much as an official confirmation that the game exists, but it only goes to show how powerful a good brand can be. “GTA 5” is still enjoying a lot of attention from all over the industry, and it doesn’t look like that’s going to die down anytime soon, but many gamers are already curious to find out what they can expect from the next installment in the franchise.
One of the more recent rumors about the game discusses the possibility of VR support, and this has quickly gotten the attention of many fans of the franchise. “GTA” is one of the series with the strongest potential for something like that, and by the time “GTA 6” is ready, the technology should already be mainstream and in everybody’s home. Who knows, maybe the game could even spearhead the advancement of VR into our everyday lives, as the tech will certainly need some big names to support it during the next years.
Other rumors about “GTA 6” talk about the setting of the game, yet again. This has been a favorite topic of many fans of the series ever since the first discussions about the next installment started, and we’ve already seen various interesting suggestions brought up. Currently, one popular theory is that the game could take place in Europe, possibly specifically in Moscow.
Of course, we’ve been hearing so many rumors about the setting of the game at this point, that it’s extremely unlikely that any of them are close to the truth. After all, Rockstar would probably need a lot of time to sort out the world of the new game, especially if they want to base it on a real-life location. On the other hand, the setting is obviously one of the first things that will go on the drawing board, so if the studio is already planning for the game (somewhat plausible), then they should at least have some ideas in their minds already.
It would be interesting to see a “GTA” game in a realistic location again, especially one in Europe. It’s been quite a while since the very first installments in the franchise, which took players to England, and Russia could work especially well as a location for “GTA 6”. The game already has plenty of plot connections to the area as well, making it an even bigger possibility.
Some players seem convinced that the Russian setting holds an implication that the game will revisit some familiar characters from “GTA 4”, and that would indeed be a great thing to see. Rockstar seem keen on the idea of referencing their older games – and even other franchises – in “GTA”, so that’s quite possible. If that’s true though, it could have some implications for the kind of tone we can expect from the game too.
“GTA 4” was considered by many to be the bleakest, most depressing installment in the franchise yet, and it did steer things away from the overly cheerful tone of the previous games (and the next one). It was a down-to-earth story about Eastern European mobsters, and while it obviously took some liberties with its realism (it’s “GTA”, after all), many players were struck by how different the game was. Could the next installment in the series follow a similar formula?
