‘GTA 6’ Release Date Would Depend on Rockstar’s Official Rollout of Red Dead Redemption 2

It has been widely speculated since early last year that the open world action-adventure video game “Grand Theft Auto (GTA) 6” would come out in the current generation gaming console anytime from 2018 to 2020.

The 2018 speculation is justified by the fact that from “GTA 4” to “GTA 5,” it took the New York-based game developer Rockstar Games five years to complete the next game in the franchise. “GTA 5” came out on the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One in October 2013 and on the PC a few months after that.

On the presumption of the same development timeline, “GTA 6” could come out around October 2018.

The 2020 speculation, on the other hand, came out as a result of rumors saying that “GTA 6” could already come out on the next generation of gaming consoles from both Sony and Microsoft, which could be the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Two, respectively.

However, critics note that Rockstar Games still has a major game in its development roster that has yet to be officially released and that is the open world Western action-adventure video game “Red Dead Redemption 2.”

It has been widely rumored early this year that “Red Dead Redemption 2” would be launched during the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2016 in June before it will hit the gaming consoles and the PC before the end of the year.

Unfortunately, the E3 2016 has passed, and so was the Gamescom 2016 held in Cologne, Germany last month, but “Red Dead Redemption 2” has yet to see the light of day.

Latest reports now have it that the game would only come out after the remastered version of the original game, “Red Dead Redemption,” is released to the PlayStation 4, the Xbox One, and the PC in the first half of next year. That leaves the second half of next year as the only window for “Red Dead Redemption 2” to be launched and subsequently released to the gaming consoles and the PC.

Any push back on the release of “Red Dead Redemption 2” next year would surely affect the release date of “GTA 6″ in 2018, note critics.

Coming out with VR support

There are also reports saying that when the “GTA 6” comes out on the current or the next generation gaming consoles and the PC, it shall already have a virtual reality (VR) support.

Some are saying that by 2018, VR would already be a mainstream technology in international gaming development so “GTA 6” would surely join the bandwagon and would, in fact, be among the first games that would take on the technological advancement, details Game & Guide.

Having a VR support for “GTA 6” would do well for the game especially if the rumors are true that it shall also be featuring teleportation and time travel in its gameplay.

However, it should be noted that all of these are mere speculations and should be taken with a fine grain of salt.

No-show at the PlayStation Meeting

Incidentally, Rockstar Games was again a no-show at the PlayStation Meeting held on September 7. There were rumors saying that the game developer would use the event to make an update announcement on “GTA 6” but no such thing happened.

Instead, the even focused on Sony’s unveiling of the PlayStation Pro, which is a slimmer and updated version of the PlayStation 4, notes the University Herald.

It was actually tipster, Tidux, who made the disclosure of the “GTA 6” getting an update announcement from Rockstar on September 7 through a cryptic post he made on Twitter on August 12.
