As rumors about “GTA 6” don’t stop and some fans of the franchise keep discussing what they would like to see in the next installment, we still have no official confirmation from Rockstar that the game is even in development. We’ve seen various rumors going around, but they were mostly based on wild speculation and not on any concrete information. Most of the time, they were concerned with the game’s setting or protagonists.
Recently, reports have surfaced that Rockstar might actually be farther along in the development of the game than we initially thought. If the rumors are true, the studio might have already finished their initial work on the world of “GTA 6”, meaning that they’ve already settled on a specific location and possibly certain gameplay elements as well.
As for the actual location – nobody knows for sure. Rumors vary wildly from source to source, and many of them seem inspired by the creative imaginations of fans, rather than anything specific. We’ve seen claims that the game might take place in a real-world location, something which the franchise hasn’t seen in a long time. According to some rumors, the story might not even be set in the US, with locations like Japan and the UK being brought up.
Other than that, fans are constantly talking about the protagonist(s) of the game and wondering what Rockstar might do in this regard. “GTA 5” spiced things up by introducing three separate playable characters for the first time in the franchise, and many fans liked the idea enough that they want to see it returning in “GTA 6”.
On the other hand, some have called for a female character to be introduced as at least one of the game’s protagonists, and we wouldn’t be surprised if this idea was on the table for the studio as well. If they are listening to what their fans are saying online, they should definitely at least entertain it as an option. It may not work out after some initial testing (depending on how the game’s plot is structured), but there is no reason for Rockstar to not at least give it a try. If it doesn’t interfere with the plot in any major way, it could be a good addition to the game.
With regards to the world of “GTA 6”, some fans seem more concerned with the actual gameplay implications of the map rather than its specific location. Gamers have wanted more freedom of exploration in the franchise for a long time now, and even though “GTA 5” was a step in the right direction, modern technology arguably allows for even more.
For example, the studio could design houses with interior spaces instead of using them as props all over the city, and even if it involves a loading transition when moving between indoors and outdoors, it should still make the gameplay significantly more interesting than before. This could also open up the doors to some interesting new missions and interactions with other characters, further strengthening some of the core values of the franchise.
Regardless of whether Rockstar are currently working on “GTA 6”, it’s probably not reasonable to expect any announcements about the game in the next one or two years. The studio is still actively focused on adding content to “GTA 5” and polishing the game with regular patches, and they’ve managed to keep their fans relatively happy until now. But this means that they most likely have the majority of their development resources tied up in post-release support for the current installment in the series.
