Fans were left in a cliffhanger when “Grey’s Anatomy'” Season 13 went on hiatus. Particularly, the fate of Justin Chambers’ Alex Karev was left on the line after the episode ended with the question of will he be going to jail or not.
The midseason finale showed Alex deciding to go to take the plea and receive a sentence for what he did to Deluca. However, Meredith’s phone call, where she delivered a very emotional speech, left him hesitant.
Mer told him that Alex still has a chance to save himself. She also pleaded Alex not to do it because she couldn’t do it on her own. Mer said that there were originally five of them and now there’s only the two of them.
Fans will remember that back in the Season 12 finale, Alex ran into an inebriated Jo and Deluca aiding her from her drunken state. Alex misunderstood the situation thinking that they were having an affair and ended up assaulting the intern.
His only escape from the situation is for Jo to testify in his defense, which she is hesitant to do so because she will be discovered to be living a fake identity.
Jo revealed that she is married and Jo Wilson is not her real name. Bailey already failed to protect Alex to evade prison by taking him off the surgery area and allowing him to work in the clinic and has already had the hospital’s board to shake things up.
While many fans expect Karev to either be taking the plea or changing his mind, reports are rife that Dr. Karev will run down a different path.
Reports suggest that series creator Shonda Rhimes and ABC are in talks to give Alex his own spinoff show. Rumors say that Alex will eventually head to jail but with a lighter sentence because he took the plea.
However, it looks like jail time won’t be doing Alex some good. Even if he overcomes this ordeal, it’s unsure if he will be able to have a normal life after everything.
As per Hollywood Life, the complicated subplots and events on Alex’s life this season will lead him to leave Grey Sloan Memorial and live his life elsewhere, leading to his own spinoff series.
Fans have gone to social media to express their excitement over the possibility, saying that Alex has been one of the most loyal characters in the show and his story deserves to be expanded via his own TV show.
The rumor was first hinted when the show’s executive producer spoke with The Hollywood Reporter admitting that the team has been thinking of creating a spinoff series for some time now.
She adds that Shondaland, her production company, has been considering of producing a spin-off from one of its shows. Although it wasn’t really stated to be “Grey’s Anatomy,” Rhimes said that they want viewers to know more about this particular character who is having an ordeal right now.
Fans have already crossed out other of Shonda Rhimes’ show such as “How to Get Away with Murder” and “Scandal” to receive a spin-off.
The former is still in its third season, while “Scandal” is facing rumors of cancellation because the show has not been generating expected rating results.
ABC executive Channing Dungey has seconded Rhimes’ statements saying that the network is open to the idea of creating a spin-off show for one main character.
Dungey also revealed that Alex was not even part of the original core characters in the series and it’s amazing that he has been one of the most developed and one of the most loved characters in the show.

This show has gotten so dumb lately. It’s hard to believe this is the kind of plot in a Grey’s Anatomy episode when the show used to be so good. Once McDreamy left there was no point in watching anymore. Meredith has no Charisma without him.
