“Grey’s Anatomy” fans will have to endure more waiting as the premiere for Season 13’s 10th episode has been delayed due to ABC decision to air a pre-inauguration 20/20 special about President-elect Donald Trump.
Following the special, “America’s First Family: The Trumps Go to Washington” will also air on January 19, the supposed return of Shonda Rhimes holy trinity on television.
This means that Rhimes’ famous TGIT will all be bumped until the following week. “Scandal” Season 6 and the midseason premiere of “How to Get Away with Murder” Season 3 will also air on January 26 along with “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 13.
Despite the weeklong delay, the network has come up with a way to appease the fans. ABC has released a slew of photos of Sarah Drew’s April and Jesse William’s Jackson.
Drew also spoke to Entertainment Weekly recently and revealed that fans will get to finally meet Jackson’s father.
While the “Bad Moms” star did not go into detail how Jackson’s father comes into Grey-Sloan memorial, his arrival will bring a turning point for Jackson and April’s relationship.
She also dished that there’s another episode that would be Japril-centric coming up this season. Drew added that the episode means so much to her because it’s directed by Kevin McKidd, who plays Owen Hunt on the medical drama.
Shonda Rhimes earlier stated that compared to the past season, things are going to slow down and head the lighter direction for Jackson and April, especially now that they have Harriet.
Rhimes said that the season will be a refresh for the two characters as they try their best to co-parent Harriet while being divorced. They also have to deal with their unresolved feelings for one another.
Meanwhile, fans are really curious as to what will happen to Justin Chambers’ Alex Karev after the November cliffhanger.
In the previous episode, Karev was already preparing for the worst, losing his license and getting some jail time, after he decided to take the plea regarding the physical assault case on DeLuca.
However, Meredith’s heartbreaking phone call may potentially change his mind. Mer pleads Alex that he should not surrender because he still can get back to being a surgeon.
Fans will finally be treated to Karev’s decision when the show returns in a few weeks. While many believe that Alex might be serving jail time, it looks like that’s not going to be the case.
Meanwhile, Camila Ludington’s Jo was having a meltdown of her own after she revealed to DeLuca that she’s being summoned by the court to provide a testimony in the case.
Jo fears that the court may find out her real identity and that she’s married, in turn losing her medical license as well.
Speaking of Jo, Rhimes said that Jo will not be pregnant in the show despite Ludington being pregnant with her first baby in real life.
Rhimes said that Jo’s pregnancy will not yet be written in the show such as Amelia’s, with Catherine Scorsone pregnant with her second child while filming.
The episode, titled “You Can Look (But You’d Better Not Touch)” will also see Jo, Jessica Capshaw’s Arizona and Chandra Wilson’s Bailey team up.
The trio will work on a complicated case inside a women’s prison, helping a teen girl who’s serving 20 years to life behind bars.
The storyline will be the focal point of the winter premiere and will center heavily on how each of the three doctors reacts to the situation.
The remainder of the season will also focus on the love triangle brewing between Maggie, Nathan, and Meredith.
