Then, Dr. Grey got surprised after she heard a woman answer her husband’s phone. She initially thought Derek was cheating on her. Derek immediately went back to her to explain. He told her he loves her very much and that he cannot live without her.
He told her that he will go back to Washington for one last time to quit his job and to go back to Seattle, permanently. Unfortunately, on his way to the airport, he got involved in a major car crash. Derek was immediately declared brain-dead by the emergency hospital.
The loss was even more tragic for Meredity. She filed a leave at the hospital informing everyone that she and her children are safe. She went away for about a year. As it turned out, Meredith was pregnant with her third child. This is her biggest challenge so far. How is she going to cope with a new baby and no husband to support her?
