‘Gran Turismo Sport’ Release Date Push-Back Also Affects Development and Official Rollout of ‘Gran Turismo 7’

Game developer Polyphony Digital and game publisher Sony already announced a few months ago that the car racing video game “Gran Turismo Sport” shall come out exclusively on the PlayStation 4 on November 15.

It seems that the release date would be pushed back further down the line, and most likely up to next year as series creator Kazunori Yamauchi announced that “Gran Turismo Sport” is going to be delayed inevitably.

As a result of the decision to delay the release date of “Gran Turismo Sport,” cancellation for pre-orders for the video game has begun, much to the disappointment of many PlayStation 4 gamers.

The push-back also means that the earliest that “Gran Turismo Sport” could come out on the PlayStation 4 is next year although Polyphony Digital has yet to come out with an exact release date as of this time.

Looking further on the effect on the delay of the release of “Gran Turismo Sport” is the likely delay on the release date of “Gran Turismo 7” which was earlier speculated to come out next year. But with the push-back on its predecessor video game in the same franchise, “Gran Turismo 7” shall also be pushed back just as well and the earliest that the game may come out is in 2018, if Polyphony gives it the green light.

Likely reason for the delay

There are rumors saying that the push-back on the release date of “Gran Turismo Sport” is because the developers at Polyphony Digital has just realized that it pales in comparison with the very impressive “Assetto Corsa” racing video game that came out recently.

Polyphony Digital does not want its game to come out merely a second fiddle to “Assetto Corsa” or any other car racing video game and has decided to go back to the drawing board to ensure that “Gran Turismo Sport” will come out extremely better in all aspects, reports Alphr.

Critics are saying that “Gran Turismo Sport” may have lofty aims but for any of them to really catch on, it needs to nail the gameplay and feel of driving so that gamers would really be hooked onto it.

Those who have seen the gameplay trailer of “Gran Turismo Sport” are actually one in saying that it is the best-looking car racing game on the PlayStation 4. But that seems not good enough for Polyphony Digital as it wants to rival the other car racing video games even in other gaming platforms.

‘Gran Turismo Sport’ is not ‘Gran Turismo 7’

While previous speculations have been saying that “Gran Turismo 7” has been repackaged and set to be release as “Gran Turismo Sport” exclusively on the PlayStation 4, Polyphony Digital has come out to deny the rumors.

Back then, Polyphony said that “Gran Turismo Sport” is not a prologue of “Gran Turismo 7” but it can be considered as “Gran Turismo 6.5″ either.

Of late, however, series creator Kazunori Yamauchi is now saying that “Gran Turismo Sport” could have been called “Gran Turismo 7” because it contains so many different features. He added that there would be no problem calling it “Gran Turismo 7,” details Digital Spy.

Apparently, at the time of the announcement of “Gran Turismo Sport,” the main focus of the title was really the sports part so that is why he named it “Gran Turismo Sport.”

Gran Turismo 7

Yamauchi said that looking back into the development of “Gran Turismo Sport,” he could easily call it as “Gran Turismo 7” even as he breaks into a hearty laugh.

The series creator explained that “Gran Turismo Sport” is a brand new era compared to “Gran Turismo 1 to 6” because of the level of innovation and the level of technology that is going into the title.

He then said that naming it as “Gran Turismo Sport” with a new title like that might not be so off the mark.
