More than two years since the release of the car racing video game “Gran Turismo 6” on the PlayStation 3 in December 2013, its sequel has yet to be released on the PlayStation 4.
Instead of announcing the possible release date of “Gran Turismo 7” sometime late last year, game developer Polyphony Digital announced the upcoming launch of “Gran Turismo Sports.”
While some gamers are saying that “Gran Turismo Sports” is actually “Gran Turismo 7,” Polyphony Digital assured fans and gamers of the franchise that it shall be releasing “Gran Turismo 7” separate from the upcoming “Gran Turismo Sports.”
It is expected that upon the unveiling of the PlayStation 4-exclusive car racing video game in one or two years time, it will be up against tough competition. As it is, “Gran Turismo Sport” shall be facing stiff challenges from other car racing video games including “Project Cars,” “Need for Speed,” “Driveclub,” and the upcoming Xbox One-exclusive, the “Forza Motorsports 6,” details Alphr.
Given the tough competition, Polyphony Digital is pressured to raise its game with its upcoming “Gran Turismo 7.”
A worst offender
Both Sony and Polyphony Digital have not given an exact release date yet but the “Gran Turismo Sport” beta will be coming to the PlayStation 4 in the spring of this year and it is likely that the full game will come either late this year or early next year.
Fans and gamers of “Gran Turismo” video game series know that it’s developer is one of the worst offenders when it comes to delays so seeing the same happening on “Gran Turismo 7” no longer surprises them.
Despite the previous game delays caused by series director Kazunori Yamauchi, Sony remains confident that “Gran Turismo 7” will eventually come out soon.
In a recent interview, Jim Ryan, President and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, said that there is nothing to suggest that Yamauchi would not deliver on what he said about “Gran Turismo 7.” Ryan added that the series director has been working on “Gran Turismo 7” for a while and they are confident that he will be releasing the game soon.
An entirely different game
Game publisher Sony Computer Entertainment announced during the Paris Games Week late in October that it will be launching the “GT Sports” video game exclusively on the PlayStation 4 in 2016, which came out as a bit of disappointment to anxious fans of “Gran Turismo 7.”
Sony also made it clear that “GT Sports” is an entirely different game from “Gran Turismo 7” although it alluded that the upcoming game would be a good thirst-quencher for the anticipating fans of the seventh installment of the “Gran Turismo” video game franchise, notes the Christian Today.
Jim Ryan actually described “GT Sports” as packing some content, which was not possible with the games back in the old days, which were only limited to what was available on the disc.
For a while, fans of “Gran Turismo 7” were expecting that the game will finally be released this year based on the hints of series creator Kazunori Yamauchi who said previously that the upcoming game will feature more premium cars that shall represent modern-day racing.
Yamauchi mentioned that those premium cars will represent the 2015 and 2016 era. So if game developer Polyphony Digital will release the game in 2017, then the premium cars of 2015 and 2016 shall no longer represent modern-day racing. Anything beyond 2017 would make the so-called premium cars of modern-day racing already antiquated.
However, there is a chance that “Gran Turismo 7” could be released earlier as reports have it that Polyphony Digital has already announced the launching date for the beta of the game.
Critics note that game betas are typically launched close to the actual game’s release date, and even though such is not a rule carved in stone, it is still a fair indicator that the title is also not far from being a reality.
Releasing a beta usually means that the game itself is close enough to completion that even a stripped-down version can be deemed ready to be showcased to the fans.
