The long-running Gran Turismo franchise developed by Polyphony Digital is one of the most popular and genre-defining racing series of all time. The first title debuted in 1997 for the PlayStation and since then the titles have offered some of the most immersive and visually breathtaking experiences in racing games. Presently, the fans have their fingers crossed for the next-gen Gran Turismo 7 title from Polyphony Digital, developed specifically for the PlayStation 4.
The last game in this series was Gran Turismo 6 which launched on December, 2013. Since the title was developed during the end of the last-generation consoles, it wasn’t launched for the next-gen hardware. Kazunori Yamauchi, the creator of the Gran Turismo series has declared that working on the newer console platforms is much easier than on the old-gen consoles like the PS3.
Furthermore, fans are more excited as the developers have declared that Gran Turismo 7 will be the best installment in this series, till date. It is certainly a big thing to say as this successful and critically-acclaimed franchise has been present for about 20 years now.
However, in previous interviews, Kazunori Yamauchi has already stated the power and the prowess of the present-generation PS4 hardware. Coupled further with the ease of development, GT fans could be expecting a lot in this upcoming title.
In the meantime, Sony greatly needs a strong PS4 racing title due to the disappointment faced with their other racing franchise. The meager performance along with serious issues in the PlayStation-exclusive title DriveClub should have compelled the developers to figure out something awesome for world gamers. It seems like; Gran Turismo might just do the trick in making racing game fans happy with their PS4 consoles.
The PlayStation Experience event in Las Vegas further heightened the expectation and hype regarding this upcoming title. The game itself (gameplay footage) was not shown, but a lot was discussed regarding it in the developers’ panel. Eric Fishback, the Polyphony Digital Community Manager, stated that Gran Turismo 7 will undoubtedly be the best one yet. Like Yamauchi said earlier, Eric declared that the developers had a pleasant experience working with the PlayStation 4 hardware. The game will probably release on 2015 or could even be as late as 2016.
Declaring that Gran Turismo 7 is the best in this series is quite a bold statement to make. Nevertheless, it’s feasible to say that the PS4 is a very strong console, and the visual experience has greatly impressed gamers so far. DriveClub suffered from poor gameplay but had excellent visual qualities. Gran Turismo 7 will look even better with Polyphony Digital’s expertise.
Stay tuned for more updates on racing titles!
