Usually, when a studio starts working on a new game, this tends to mean the end of updates for their previous titles – or at least regular, major content updates. It’s completely normal and understandable as well, considering that the developers usually want to put all their effort into the new title. And yet, Polyphony Digital seem to be perfectly capable of handling two development fronts at the same time. While the production of “Gran Turismo 7” is moving forward with full speed, the developers are still paying attention to their previous title, having just released a pretty big content update for “Gran Turismo 6”.
Users who download the 1.15 update for the game can now access two brand new vehicles – the Chevrolet Chaparral 2X Vision Gran Turismo, and the Infiniti Concept Vision Gran Turismo. The cars can be obtained in two ways – players can either participate in the limited Seasonal Event and complete a lap in it, or if they don’t want to go through the trouble (or have missed the event), the cars are also available for purchase.
This release is part of the “Vision Gran Turismo” project, which has had various major car manufacturers designing their own unique models just for the “Gran Turismo” series, a move that was met with strongly positive reactions from fans.
In addition to the new cars, the update also makes various improvements to the game, as well as adjustments to its balance. Several issues with the interface have been addressed – for example, when the player uses a custom sorting order in the garage, this setting will now be saved for the next session. In addition, users who’ve submitted content to the Community section of the game and have had it subsequently removed due to a terms violation, will now get a notification letting them know about the issue (as opposed to the silent removals which were in place before).
Other than that, the new update also brings various bug fixes, making the game a bit more polished. Still, given the reception “Gran Turismo 6” received on its launch, this move might be coming a bit too late to improve its reputation in any significant way. Polyphony Digital should definitely focus on making sure that “Gran Turismo 7” is a proper, solid release, because fans’ trust in the series has been a bit shaky lately. And it would certainly be sad to see one of the most popular and successful racing franchises going down because of a few rushed releases, when it’s obvious that the developers actually have the best intention to make their games polished and well-done.
