GoPro have gone through some interesting changes over the years, and their product line-up has been shown to be subject to some serious changes from time to time when deemed necessary. The upcoming GoPro Hero 5 has been the subject of much speculation, after the company started to lose some ground on the action camera market. While they had a pretty strong advantage in the beginning when their concept was still relatively novel, that’s no longer the case nowadays when multiple other companies are involved in this business and have good offers of their own.
According to the most recent reports about GoPro, they are currently looking into tightening their grip on their individual products by decreasing the number of offers in their line, and focusing on a smaller range of devices instead. Other companies in different tech branches have adopted a similar strategy with varying degrees of success in the past, so it’s too early to make any predictions for how this will play out for GoPro themselves.
They’ve also made some interesting claims about the upcoming GoPro Hero 5, such as that it will be the “most connected and convenient” GoPro ever made. By the time that model is out on the market, the company will have dealt away with the low-end section of their GoPro line, which will happen around April. After that, we can expect the Hero 5 at some point later during the year, though an exact date hasn’t been specified yet.
The hardware of the device is not the only thing that’s going to change for the next iteration, as GoPro are reportedly also developing a new software suite for editing videos captured by the device. According to their own claims, the new software will be quite capable and will allow users to make great edits in relatively short time, much better than what’s already available on the market at the moment. Of course, such claims are easy to make before the product has actually reached the market, and it’s also possible that the environment could change by the time GoPro have released their own offer, with better products available by the competition, but it would still be interesting to see what they can come up with.
After all, editing videos on the go is still a relatively new concept since mobile devices have only recently become capable enough to handle this kind of processing. It’s not clear what kind of direction this technology could head towards next, but we definitely expect that there are going to be some even more interesting developments in this area in the next months/years. Whether they will come from GoPro or someone else is impossible to say, but it’s fair to admit that the company showed an affinity towards creative thinking in the past with their original devices, so they could easily come out with something just as innovative in the near future too.
Especially if it’s true that they’re cutting down on the total number of devices that they will offer, as this should allow them to more effectively focus on the ones that truly matter and give them an opportunity to stand above their competitors once again. Action camera users are currently quite active in discussing where this market could head next on the Internet, and there are definitely some creative ideas circulating all over the place that are worth paying attention to.
