GoPro Hero 5 to Come Out with a GPS Feature to Track the User’s Location, Elevation, or Speed!

While American camcorder company, GoPro, has yet to make an official statement regarding the latest and upcoming iteration of its action camera called as the Hero 5, reports are rife that the device would finally launch in October.

The October 2016 launching of the GoPro Hero 5 is actually a one-year push-back from the previously reported October 2015 rollout of the action camera.

The delay in the launch of the device made a telling impact on the profit bottom line of the American camcorder company that it would be foolhardy for the firm not to launch the GoPro Hero 5 in October this year.

Latest rumors about the action camera are saying that it would come out with a GPS feature. This means that the photos and videos taken by the GoPro Hero 5 will be automatically tagged with the user’s location and stored in the metadata which would be useful when the user shares content on social media. It will also make EXIF info readily available to the user, details Thai Tech.

In addition, the GPS feature of the device could also be used to track other things for the user including elevation or speed so that he or she can see how far he or she has dropped while on a particularly daring snowboarding session or bungee jumping stunt perhaps.

The GPS feature of the GoPro Hero 5 is the latest inclusion to the rumored specifications and capabilities of the action camera including a new interface, more streamlined controls, a touch screen, and a major design upgrade from its predecessor, the GoPro Hero 4.

It has been previously reported that the GoPro Hero 5 shall be smaller and lighter which would benefit new users more than the old users of Hero series action cameras. The old users of the action camera line might need to shell out an additional expense for replacement cases, batteries, or other accessories.

A leak from a credible source

The GPS feature of the GoPro Hero 5 came out as a result of the new leak released by Charles Anderson from Dougherty & Co analyst, regarded as a very credible source in the business.

The new leak also shed light on the specifications and possible release date of the GoPro Hero 5, notes the University Herald.

Anderson happened to have released a research note where he stated that the GoPro Hero 5 will be the first action camera to have a built-in GPS and 802.11ac Wi-Fi.

He also revealed that the thinner design of the GoPro Hero 5 will be 16% slimmer than the Hero 4, adding also that the black model of the action camera will also receive improvements including better image quality.

Anderson also explained that there is no evidence of dual lenses for 360-degree image capture, which would surely disappoint many of its anticipating fans.

The same leak also reinforced previous speculations that the action camera would come out in the market this coming October.

High expectations

The expectations on the GoPro Hero 5 are very high among consumers but nothing can be higher on the expectations of the American camcorder company on the device when it is finally launched this coming October.

According to reports, GoPro is really pinning its hopes on the GoPro Hero 5 to help turn the income around for the consumer electronics manufacturer after a profit debacle last year.

Joe Wittine of Longbow Research recently said that he is optimistic about the financial prospects of the company with the forthcoming launching of the GoPro Hero 5 and the release of the Karma drone, which was already launched late last year.

The analyst believes that the two upcoming products could help return the company to profitability coupled with a bullish market sentiment in the foreseeable future.

Wittine also believes that GoPro Hero 5 shall provide a contemporary user experience that would ensure that the action camera is more enjoyable and user-friendly, which means that the device would have an automated loading process.
