For a camera supposed to be used in extreme conditions, GoPro really are pushing their designs to extreme boundaries. The company has been very successful with their Hero line of cameras, and while we don’t know when the Hero 5 is going to hit the market, we’ve been hearing various interesting rumors about it which could indicate that something big is being prepared behind the doors of GoPro.
One of the most actively speculated aspects of the device is its resolution. It’s pretty clear that people would be interested in finding out what kind of definition they’ll be able to record in, and the latest rumors point towards something quite impressive – an amazing 8K resolution. If this is true, the camera should be able to capture videos with a fantastic quality, especially when combined with the rumored high-framerate recording capabilities.
In addition, it could also have improved underwater resistance, a better battery and more connectivity options. The supported framerates should go up to 60 FPS if the rumors are true, although it’s not clear if this will be supported across all resolutions, or just for smaller ones. Even if users have to cut down the resolution by half to record at 60 FPS though, that should be more than enough if the camera really does support 8K.
GoPro haven’t said anything about the Hero 5 so far, and we don’t know when the device is going to hit the market – but there have recently been rumors that claim it’s coming in October. Whether or not this is true it’s hard to tell, as the rumors are difficult to confirm – but it certainly would make sense. The market for extreme sports cameras has been getting more and more popular, and various companies have made their own entries into it recently.
GoPro now have a lot more competition than they did before, and they should no longer rely on their position as the innovator in this field if they want to continue seeing success. Of course, it seems like the company is well aware of that fact, and they are pushing their development forward instead of letting the Hero line stagnate.
Releasing the Hero 5 in October would actually make a lot of sense, as the market would have cooled down about competing products that were released recently, and people will give a lot more attention to the new Hero. The company already has a large following of dedicated fans who would love to see them releasing something new as well, so they won’t even have to put a lot of effort into their marketing. They’ll just have to make sure that the Hero 5 is actually an attractive option.
