The GoPro Hero 4 Silver Edition is the latest offering from the sports camera manufacturing giant. It is a mid-price range camera and borrows numerous features from its predecessors along with numerous additional modes, higher frame rates and better resolutions.
The GoPro Hero 4 Silver Edition is capable of filming videos at 2.7k @ 30fps, 1080p @ 60fps and 720p @ 120fps. The Hero 4 Black is a notch higher and captures 4k videos @ 30fps and 1080p @ 120fps.
The camera further boasts of numerous frame rates and higher resolution combinations. The built-in touchscreen is worthy of being mentioned. The latest range of sports cameras from GoPro can be best compared to a difficult video game with lesser controls and character capabilities.
However, the GoPro Hero 4 Silver Edition has a few features that deserve to be highlighted, such as, video stabilization, which films steady videos even on the most uneven surfaces. Hence, the video quality is a lot better than most below-average, low-budget cameras from rival makers that have popped up within the past couple of years.
GoPro has enhanced the software aspect of the new range of cameras, meaning that the interface is easier to use than before while numerous additions have been made as well. The camera handles like a dream, and you can view the images captured on the device, remotely. If you’re looking for a beginner’s device, the GoPro Hero 4 Silver Edition is the best bet. However, if you’re looking at something more advanced, you should consider high-end devices such as the Hero 4 Black Edition.
GoPro’s three-button setup is easier to use alongside the touchscreen setup, and it makes sense paying $140 for the device. However, we recommend you get a handle for your device as it would suck to get home after an adventurous day to find out that you had some external particle on the lens the entire time.
Wide-angle videos are butter-smooth on the GoPro Hero Pro 4 Silver Edition, and GoPro deserves special credit for offering what they currently are, at this budget. The device is magnificent and we would have loved to get hold of it a little while longer, to test out all the additional features.
However, the Hero 4 Silver Edition’s battery is shaped differently from its predecessors. Hence, if you have a few spares lying around the house, they won’t fit this device. GoPro has also stuck to their mini USB port instead of upgrading to micro USB. This is again a huge letdown.
However, considering that the GoPro Hero 4 Black Edition is priced at $700, the Silver Edition suddenly feels like a better option, if we calculate the difference in their price tags.
