There is a fascinating news going around for fans who have been waiting for the Google Nexus 7 2016 to come out. They were actually expecting the device to come out about the same time as the Android 7.0 Nougat. Since the smartphone is to become Google’s latest flagship smartphone, there is no better way to introduce it than to have it coming out with the Android Nougat first among other Android devices.
Unfortunately, when the Android 7.0 Nougat officially came out on August 22, there was no Google Nexus 7 2016 and as such the latest Google mobile operating system shall come out first on the LG V20 handset out of the box.
The reports that followed said that the Google Nexus 7 2016, which shall be in the form of two handsets, namely the Sailfish and the Marlin, shall come out around November instead.
Subsequently, rumors also started coming out that Google wanted to do away with the brand Nexus on its flagship smartphones.
Latest reports now have it that Google is indeed planning to launch two variants of its latest Nexus flagship smartphone and the American tech company has indeed done away with the Nexus brand. As a matter of fact, Google’s upcoming flagship smartphones are to be called as the Pixel X and the Pixel XL.
The Sailfish shall be the Pixel X and the Marlin shall be the Pixel XL and the same reports are saying that it would come out on October 4 during Google’s special event, reports the PC Advisor of UK.
Name is different but specifications are the same
The latest rumors seem to indicate that only the names of the Google flagship smartphones have been changed but the previously reported specifications are the same.
The upcoming flagship smartphone from Google are to be powered by NVIDIA’s Tegra X1 processor and also the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processing chip.
It shall have a 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage that can be expanded up to 2TB via a microSD card slot.
There are also reports saying that HTC and Huawei have been commissioned by Google to manufacture each of its upcoming flagship smartphones. HTC shall be doing the high-end Pixel XL or the Marlin while Huawei will be manufacturing the Pixel X or the Sailfish, details the Science World Report.
In terms of price, the speculations are also saying that the Google Nexus 7 2016 shall be a budget friendly flagship smartphone and as such its base model, which is likely the Pixel X or the Sailfish shall reportedly come out with a retail price of $260.
However, all these remain as speculations pending the official confirmation or denial from Google.
October or November release date?
Prior to the October 4 release date report, previous rumors were saying that the latest flagship smartphones from Google shall come out in November. In fact, one website specifically mentioned that the Google Nexus 7 2016 shall be released on November 24.
However, Google has yet to confirm or deny this release date rumors so it should still be taken with a fine grain of salt.
The Google Nexus 7 2016 shall reportedly come out via two premium handsets, which according to the hype shall be the best Stock Android devices ever to come out.
Previous rumors were saying that the new Stock Android smartphones shall be fired up by the latest and greatest chipset from Qualcomm. So the NVIDIA processor rumor is quite new. It shall reportedly include Vulkan graphics support and OpenGL 3.0 support.
It has also been reported that the Google Nexus 7 2016 shall have significant shooting refinement and enhancements with the reported inclusion of the Sony IMX179 camera sensor.
What seems consistent with the rumors for the device is that it shall come out with two variants, which are going to be called as the Marlin and the Sailfish.
