The Google Nexus smartphones have been one of the most nice-looking handsets that came out of the market although they hardly made any splash on the because of their rather standard or traditional hardware and features.
But the seventh iteration of the smartphone, officially known as the Google Nexus 2016 seeks to change the perception as the American tech company is positioning it to become the next flagship killer in the market.
When a smartphone is branded as a flagship killer, it means that it would have the same features of the current flagship smartphones of today but relatively less in terms of price. When offered to the consumers, they would certainly be chosen over the other flagships because of the main issue of price difference.
The Google Nexus 2016 is to be manufactured by Taiwanese tech giant HTC and reports have it that the two variants of the smartphone shall have identical hardware with today’s flagship smarpthones.
The two variants of the smartphone are to be called Sailfish and Marlin and shall come out reportedly faster than any of the existing flagship Android devices, which is something new for a Nexus-branded smartphone, reports BGR.
Real flagship killer
According to the latest reports, the upcoming Google Nexus 2016 handsets shall be real flagship killers and shall be able to offer a better overall performance than the Samsung Galaxy S7, the HTC 10, the LG G5, and other flagships from other Android smartphone makers.
The title of flagship killer used to belong to OnePlus One but when its successor, the OnePlus Two, came out with very little improvements from its predecessor, it was stripped of the reputation.
Reports also have it that the Google Nexus 2016 Sailfish and Marlin might feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor under the hood, which is faster than the Snapdragon 820 currently being used by most Android flagship smartphones.
While this is merely speculation at this time, it seems that the rumors are in concensus that the Google Nexus 2016 handsets shall indeed be powered by the Snapdragon 821 chipset.
August release date
Incidentally, the Ecumenical News has released possible renders of the Google Nexus 2016 variants including the Sailfish and the Marlin.
Although it looks like most every other smartphones in the market today, it seems that the advantage is to be found on what’s inside the handset where Google is preparing to throw the major punch.
There have been rumors that the Google Nexus 2016 Sailfish and Marlin shall come out in September already laden with the Android 7.0 Nougat, but the outlet cited that there are also speculations that it could come out as early as August or next month.
That shall ultimately depend on when Google shall release the Android Nougat or perhaps the American software company might decide to unravel its latest mobile operating software along with the Google Nexus 2016 next month.
Whatever is the release date, Android smartphone users are now waiting with bated breaths for the eventual uveiling of both the Nougat and the Google Nexus 2016.
The Google Nexus 2016 Martin shall have a 5.5-inch screen while the Nexus 2016 Sailfish will feature a 5-inch screen.
But both smartphones shall have a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor with AMOLED display, a fingerprint scanner, a generous 3,540 mAh battery, 4GB or RAM, and USB Type-C port.
The cameras of both Google Nexus 2016 smartphones shall have 12 megapixels and their front snappers would be eight megapixels.
However, in terms of storage capacity, the Nexus 2016 Sailfish shall have a 12GB storage while the Nexus 2016 Marlin shall have a 32GB storage.
