As if Google has not been offering the public enough, now the company has updated its Google Maps application so that if you wanted to walk around the Northern Lights, you can. One of the most curious things you can see in your life is the Aurora Borealis and even though it can only be seen in certain locations at certain parts of the night, Google Maps managed to put a map together that allows you to walk right underneath it.
The Aurora Borealis was photographed over a frozen lake in Finland and now you can navigate the same Aurora Borealis with a simple click of your mouse. The lake is just frozen enough that you can walk right out onto it through Google Maps and experience the beautiful Aurora Borealis for yourself, through the computer. Some people in the world will never be able to experience this, but now you can check it out a little better compared to just seeing flat photos online of it.
Most of the time, the best time to see the Aurora Borealis is in the cold winter months, at least in the location in Finland. If you decide to watch it through the computer, at least you do not have to suit up to brave the cool temperatures. Google Maps has been working hard to get you deep into many of the locations that you might never see in your lifetime. Recently, the Maps team made it across an Arabian desert with photography coming from the camels that traveled a specific route.
The ability to see the Aurora Borealis through Google Maps starts today and is likely to get a lot of attention from online sources that are always following what Google is up to with new software upgrades. If you get a chance to see the Northern Lights in real life, you are going to be amazed and what Google captured will not compare, but at least it is something you can learn from seeing them for the first time.
