Golden Globes 2015 Nominations Feature Some Surprises and Some Expected Entries!

It’s always interesting to look at the list of nominations for each year’s Golden Globes – even if one does not follow the event in general, it can still offer an interesting insight into the current state of television, and what’s popular among fans. And, according to most people commenting the scene, the 2015 nominations have painted the current state of television in a bit of a questionable way.

The Guardian have pointed out that one of the noticeable trends is the apparent poor state of comedy. There are several networks which have traditionally been associated with strong comedy productions – NBC, CBS, ABC and FOX – and none of them were seen in the nominations for this category this year. “Modern Family” was expected to be featured, but was completely missing from the nominations list. Some shows that have been produced targeting the Web have been seeing strong progress, on the other hand, such as “Orange Is the New Black”.

“Downtown Abbey”, which many fans and critics were expecting to see gone from the nominations this year, made a surprising comeback. Many have been commenting that the show has had a rather weak performance from its very inception, and its nomination is questionable in general – especially when it’s ranked alongside undisputed hits such as “Game of Thrones” and “House of Cards”. While the drama in “Downtown Abbey” has been moderately good in some parts, it’s been nothing compared to the success of other drama productions, and some have commented that the show’s presence on the list is a bit insulting.

Meanwhile, Julianne Moore has been nominated for Best Actress for her part in “Maps to the Stars”, a musical production. The actress was already nominated for “Still Alice”, although in a different category – drama. Next, Emily Blunt was seen in the list, receiving a nomination for “Into the Woods”, while Helen Mirren was nominated for her role in “The Hundred-Foot Journey”.

All in all, there have been some surprises, as well as some obviously expected entries in the nominations for 2015, and it seems like it’s going to be an interesting event in either case. Fans have already been discussing who’s going to win their respective nomination, and who’ll be left out, although it’s admittedly hard to tell at this point. There are lots of possibilities, and some of the new entrants on the list definitely have potential. On the other hand, some critics have been pointing out the irregular and rather unpredictable behavior of the voters associated with the awards, so it really isn’t that easy to say what’s going to happen until the actual ceremony comes to the screen.
