The American pickup industry has lost its former glory as the local car makers seem to have lost interest in innovating. The market is primarily dominated by imports and even then the sales figures are not very high. While Toyota sells an average of 150,000 units of the Tacoma in a single year, Nissan sells approximately half that amount of the Frontier.
General Motors believes that this situation is self-inflicted as the local companies are uninterested in working with new ideas and technology. However, GM promises that the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado and its cousin, the 2015 GMC Canyon, will change the scenario for good.
Mechanically, both pickups are identical with the primary difference being the material used. While the Canyon is more robust and rigid, the Colorado incorporates luxury into its design. The 2015 Chevrolet Colorado is best suited for people who like to cruise in style. The vehicle has a laid back approach to things, unlike the most aggressive pickup trucks that usually adorn this class.
GM plans on introducing refinement to the class, although, the basic design elements such as solid steel frame and robust chassis have remained constant over time. The next-generation of the pickup trucks is rumored to be inspired from Crossovers, and even though we cannot affirm the rumors, there is no reason to believe otherwise, considering the present circumstances.
Both the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado and the GMC Canyon provide quite a few customization options including a larger beds along with trim and engine options. Overall, both vehicles have a sporty edge about themselves, which comes in handy and is easier to deal with. The Colorado draws power from a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine block displacing 200 BHP and is hooked on to a six-speed manual transmission system and is capable of returning 27 MPG on the freeway.
It might not sound like much because there is nothing more to it! Who cares about mileage and saving the planet while driving around in a pickup? However, the Colorado does what it is built for and can tow approximately 7,000 pounds. If you are still not satisfied, Chevrolet is offering a V6 engine block displacing 305 BHP!
Both these vehicles provide more than a decent performance on the road, and the superior suspension adjustments need to be praised. The 2015 Chevrolet Colorado feels stable throughout the speed band and features minimal body roll and wheel spin if that is what you are concerned about. Superior power to weight ratio along with optimal power displacement helps this pickup stick to the road.
