‘Girls’ is a comedy-drama that shows the daily life of New York girls. Being very similar to Sex in the City, the show is, however, strikingly different in plot and characters. While the latter focused mostly on the rich and upscale New York women, HBO’s Girls focuses more on the everyday ordinary girls.
Girls first aired on 15th April, 2012. It is created by 28-year-old Lena Dunham and focuses on characters and experiences based on her real life. The series has been renewed for a fourth season and Girls Season 4 will air on 11th January, 2015.
Girls Season 4 will focus on Ray and Marnie’s relationship. The two characters are played by Alex Karpovsky and Allison Williams respectively. The two had initially started off with a great connection but then things don’t go so well. It’s going to be interesting to see how Ray tries to patch things with Marnie by telling her about the real intentions of Desi played by Ebon Moss-Bachrach. The relationship between the two will be focused on the episode called “Female Author.”
Girls Season 4 focuses on Hannah and her new life in Iowa. An aspiring author, Hannah gets a shock when she finds that her parents, visiting from East Lansing, in Michigan, inform her that they can no longer support her. They have been looking after her since her graduation days in Oberlin College, and now she has to fend for herself.
Left on her own, Hannah learns the ropes of life making one mistake after another. The experience although not a pleasant one helps her grow up. She moves to Iowa, a smaller town from New York. This asks for a lot of adjustments, and she struggles through it. She makes some startling discoveries, as the house rents in Iowa being way less than that in New York.
Hannah realises the Iowa allows her to save more than what she would in New York, but she misses the big city life. She has long video chats with Marnie and tries to find out details about Adam. The season also shows Hannah not getting a response to a piece she had written, as she had expected, at a seminar.
Adam has lashed out at Hannah in the last season, blaming her for diverting his attention to her Iowa move right before his big Broadway break. This outburst between the two has given life to speculations that Adam might develop a soft spot for Jenna.
The promo poster for Girls Season 4 says “nowhere to grow but up” and indicates the girls will grow up and develop worldly views. The girls in their twenties experience life as they see.
