Girl Meets World Gets PGA Awards Nomination After Being Cancelled, Will Netflix Renew It?

Girl Meets World, the sequel by Disney Channel to Boy Meets World, was canceled just a week after Rider Strong said on his podcast that the show would be ending with Season 3. The series finale of Girl Meets World will be presented by Disney Channel on Friday, 20th January in the final episode, ‘Girl Meets Goodbye.’ In a statement, the network said through Deadline that the Matthews family are thinking about a life-altering decision.

They are proud that for more than 70 episodes, April Kelly, Michael Jacobs and the creative talent team, crew and cast, entertained the viewers with a heartfelt and authentic look regarding the navigation of adolescence. A great thing about the show is that hours after the cancellation of the show, it received a PGA Awards nomination for Outstanding Children’s Program.

The news was confirmed in a series of tweets by the Twitter account for the writer’s room of Girl Meets World. They reported that with incredible pride in their work and sadness with which the things are ending, they reported to the audience that the awesome show is now over. They concluded by saying that they are leaving the audience with three awesome souvenirs of a show that they couldn’t be more proud of.

They looked back and said with complete certainty that they gave it their best shot. The writers also decided to comment on their PGA Awards nomination. Many other cast members decided to pay their tributes to the show and this included Sabrina Carpenter who included a heartfelt, lengthy note in the caption of a photo.

Carpenter said thanks to everyone who watched Boy Meets World and decided to give a chance to the new Girl Meets World. She also included a message intended for the little girl who was reading her comment that she can do whatever she puts her mind to.

Meanwhile, it has been a week since Disney Channel confirmed that Girl Meets World is being canceled after the completion of three seasons. However, even then the strong fan reaction continues to take place.

It’s not a surprise since, after its initial stages of development, the show enjoyed a rabid fan following and the project successfully got on air due to an overwhelming response from the fans and followers. People are wondering why Disney Channel decided to pull the plug after three seasons and 70 episodes.

Girl Meets World Gets PGA Nomination

Similar to Fuller House, the sequel to Full House, Girl Meets World successfully rode the wave of nostalgia. It was mainly due to the people who grew up in the 1990s sitcom and got interested in the new series.

It opened with a major premiere audience of 5.2 million viewers on the Disney Channel. While the factor of curiosity started to wear off, viewership started to falter, but comedy managed to establish a proper fan base.

It enjoyed a steady live plus same viewership in the range of 1.7-1.8 million per episode for the second and third season. Girl Meets The World is also one of the best-received series on the Disney Channel.

It includes strong reviews, sharp writing, two best children’s program for Emmy nominations back to back, for the first two seasons, along with PGA and WGA nominations as well.
