Some fans have been joking that the new female Ghostbusters might become the classic version in the end, as the current age of marketing definitely allows the studio to push it more aggressively. Because of this, the joke is that a few decades from now people might be telling their children “Did you know that the Ghostbusters were originally guys?”
But there’s a long time to go until then, and the first film in the new reboot era has to succeed before we can get there. It definitely does look like it has the potential for success right now, but the studio will have to put a lot of effort into convincing all of their old fans to check out the new film.
At least there is a lot of interest towards it right now, so they won’t find it hard to get the word out.
But convincing people that they actually want to see the movie – that’s a different story, and some fans’ attachment to the original formula will have to be overcome before that can happen. Hopefully everything is going to work out smoothly in the end, as this definitely does look like a film that will be worth watching. It could be worth making sequels for too, from all that we’ve heard about it so far.
